they said celebrate ?
"A fusion between two worlds began 1300 years ago with Tariq ibn Ziyads crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar in 711. Please join us to commemorate the brilliant contributions resulting from the blending of eastern and western cultures. The agenda will tell the vital story of the achievements when Christians, Jews, and Muslims thrived side by side in Western Europe, building a society that lit the Dark Ages. Experts will discuss how to transform education, promote tolerance, civility, political reform, and advance human development so that we can emulate the spirit and triumphs of the early years."

There is that word again, "civility."
It is totally a one way street as we witness even as the current situation shows itself in Egypt -- and this fighting between themselves! Put themselves together and their common Islamic view is "Death to the infidels!!!"
My reaction to the word CIVILITY: bulls***! There can be no peaceful co-existence with Islam.

Interesting. They have changed the site. (I didn't get a screen shot, unfortunately). Here's the new wording:
A fusion between two worlds began 1300 years ago with Tariq ibn Ziyads crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar in 711. Please join us to commemorate the brilliant contributions resulting from the blending of eastern and western cultures. The agenda will tell the vital story of the achievements when Christians, Jews, and Muslims thrived side by side in Western Europe, building a society that lit the Dark Ages. Experts will discuss how to transform education, promote tolerance, civility, political reform, and advance human development so that we can emulate the spirit and triumphs of the early years. Visit our Guest Speakers Page: HERE.
Learn more about the GALA EVENT.
They still call it a "Gala event". and still have the language about emulating the "triumphs of the early years" (of the caliphate, presumably). They've added more speakers, but I still don't see any with even a claimed interest in military history.

"Commemorate" is almost as bad as "celebrate" but I just made 2 screen captures:
1) Shows the result of a search on the VMI site using the text with "celebrate" and it shows that Google bots captured "celebrate." LINK temporarily with "celebrate"
2) Is a capture from that resulting link (a pdf file) on VMI's site showing. The security setting of my PC won't let me download that pdf file but Google has a "Quick View" feature you can click to see it.

Yeah, but my long experience over the years both in and with the military leads me to believe that there are one hell of a lot of f-ups (and one bejabbers load is located at Bagram). However, it could all have changed in the last two months.

My father was class of 1955.
He's in the VMI Hall of Fame and bequeathed the soccer field itself in the bottoms for which I was invited to go speak and receive a plaque in his honour mounted in the fieldhouse.
I doubt Si Bunting would have done this.
Except for Dick Thornburgh threatening to pull ROTC, the Institute could have gone totally private over womyn.
It's a slippery slope, it always is.
Something social liberals who stand for nothing always deny or ignore.
Pity.

And my three decades in and with the military reflect that while there are some miscreants, they are a small minority. . . but then again, I can see where you might form a different opinion if you associated yourself primarily with the wrong crowd.
Vast majority in the military are patriots and dedicated one’s at that. You disagree, apparently. Okay, your choice.

Good lord...now I get it.
Most of the brass who are running this Center for Leadership and Ethics at VMI are guess what?
Chicks in uniform.
Why am I not surprised.
Ridiculous...cultural engineers.

And on August 20th, we'll be throwing a "Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia" celebration formal dress ball and bake sale.
Today is a good day to die.
I didn't say for whom.

Charles Martel made sure France and the rest of Western Europe did not join the Spanish multicultural paradise. Had he not won, we might never have experienced the High Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the flowering of education or the Industrial Revolution. We could have become part of the cultural desert that is the Islamic world today.

Some institutions seem to change their guiding principles over time and so begin to move in a direction more in line with their new discipline.
All that aside, I thought VMI was about right just where it was. I sure wasn’t ready for this. I find it more than a little disturbing.
