That is a lot of money for the cops to pay. That’ll learn them.
wait....
The taxpayers have to pay it??
How will that learn them cops anything??
and now you know why there are laws against filming or recording police officers...
Laws actually on the books, or just something a cop pulls out of his @#! when it suits him?
My God. That would be attempted manslaughter if a civy did that.
Whats the big deal, watch the TV reality show “Cops” it happens every night on that show.
Let that rattle around in your head for a few. This wasn't some beat cop. It was a Police Commander, torturing suspects, lying about it under oath, later convicted and sentenced to four years in prison and they still can't strip him of his pension.
Who paid for his defense during the investigation and trial? The taxpayer.
Who pays for his incarceration? The taxpayer.
Who pays for his attorney to argue his case in front of the Pension Board? The taxpayer.
Who's going to pay this multi-million dollar settlement? You guessed it. The long suffering taxpayer.
These cases do nothing if not confirm the fact that we are a two-tiered society with our Government masters having every advantage. And even when they're convicted of serious crimes we will still have to pay them for the rest of their natural lives.
Seems fair to me. Not.
What chase? The guy was just standing there.
Rules to live by, don’t point guns at police, they have guns too, and don’t run from police, they will chase you and try to stop you from running. Negligence or misuse of force was evident in this case (thus the settlement), but how will that change “permanent brain damage.”
The poor guy threw his Bible on the ground before he got hit, too.
It reads like someone else was chased to the spot where the innocent was assaulted and beaten.
Note that most police are “civys” also.
He was running, threw something on the ground from his pocket, and then squared up against the cop. Before that he was in a dark alley in the middle of the night, several miles away from his home where his wife was.
After that shove into the wall he didn’t need any beating. I think he was paralyzed instantly from the look of it.
He was slowly trotting.
...threw something on the ground from his pocket,...
I didn't see that and I don't see the relevance of it.
...and then squared up against the cop.
Total BS characterization.
Before that he was in a dark alley in the middle of the night,...
He was in an alley near the store he was at. Whoop de doo.
...several miles away from his home where his wife was.
Meaning he must have been up to no good since he wasn't tied at the waist with his wife right? LOL
Seems more like they are given special privileges above the law.
They are.
But unless they are, for example, Military Reservists, they are civilians just like most of the rest of us.
The police dept statement after the verdict “we had probable cause to arrest this guy for either robbery or stabbing”. Really?? So anyone can be arrested and assaulted for any “trumped up” reason??
The city settled 5 days into the trial per the article. I wonder the out come of the case IF the video did not exist.
Yeah?
Alex I’ll take “Beat down under color of law”
Answer: I’m crippled and all I got was $10 million dollars.
