The biggest problem with NH is the same day registration.
Independents and Dems can vote in the Republican Primary and then change back the minute after feeding their ballot into the machine.
If the deadline was changed back to where you had to be registered 30-60 days in advance of the primary we would go back to picking real conservatives like we used to.
FYI, there are a lot of NH conservatives on this board. We take our job of choosing presidential canidates very seriously. Most of us will personally meet several in the next 2 years.
The reason the canidates want a small state first is that it is easier and cheaper to advertise and travel around here. If a big state like TX or CA was first it would be a lot more expensive.

Anyone winning the Republican primary in NH or caucus in Iowa has two strikes against them in my book.
These states are not representative of grassroots conservatism.

Absolutely, I’ll have to look into it and see how it was done in Lincoln’s time. It’s clearly a perfect way for the media to funnel their candidate through. Maybe it really is time for a tea party candidate. “Oh, but it will destroy the GOP”. Yeah, I’m cryin’ over here.

This is a “poll” the likes of which Ron Paul wins from time to time. The outcome just depends on who stuffs the room with his supporters. Not that I dismiss Romney completely — after all, who ever thought John McCain would be our nominee?
GOP better wake up to the fact that many WILL vote 3rd party if RINO Romney is their 2012 candidate. I won’t drink the McCain Koolaide again and hold my nose to vote for a progressive lemon just because there is a -R next to the ticket. Although I don’t want Obama to win a second term, I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT VOTE FOR ROMNEY in 2012! Do the math RNC!
Romney will not dismantle the socialist apparatus that Obama has added to our government, and I will not vote for anyone who will allow ObamaCare and other Obaminations to stand. If Romney is the nominee, I will write in some combination of Palin/DeMint/Bachmann.

659:14 Voting in Primary Elections. I. A person desiring to vote at a state or presidential primary election shall, at the time of announcing the person’s name, also announce the name of the party to which the person belongs or whether the person is registered as an undeclared voter. If the person’s party membership has been registered before, the person shall be given only the ballot of the party with which the person is registered, unless the person desires to vote the ballot of a party not having official existence at the time the person’s party membership was previously registered, in which case the person may vote the ballot of such a party in the state primary election immediately following the political organization’s official existence as a party, and not in any subsequent state primary election. A person may also vote the ballot of such a party in the presidential primary election only if the presidential primary election precedes the state primary election to be held in that same year. If the rules of a party permit a person who is registered as an undeclared voter to vote in the party’s primary, any person desiring to vote in that party’s primary shall also announce the name of that party at the time of announcing the person’s name. No person shall be permitted to vote in any more than one party primary during any primary election.
II. The secretary of state shall include on the voter instruction cards required by RSA 658:28 whether a party rule has been adopted which permits a person who is registered as an undeclared voter to vote in the party’s primary. The party chairman shall notify the secretary of state in writing prior to the filing period for state offices whether the party has adopted such a rule. This rule shall not be changed or rescinded by a party until the results of the primary have been announced, and any change or rescission shall be mailed to the secretary of state by the party chairman.
So, the Stormin’ Mormon is a RINO to the core and got elected governor in the reddest of red Massachusetts, whose residents infest much of Southern NH these days. Despite all that, the Romney-bots are crowing because he eked out 96 votes for a 35% “victory” ?

I am not sure if that applies anymore or not.
I only know that an “undeclared”(ie independent) can go in on primary day and chose to register that day as either a republican or democrat. They can then change back to undeclared after voting.
I believe we also have same day registration. So you walk in show something that says you live in NH and ask for a ballot. These two items make it easier to commit voter fraud.
A large part of NH population is now “undeclared”. Hence, that is the problem. That is why McCain won last time. The independents voted for him. Republicans voted for Romney.
As far as this weekends straw poll. Who did they poll ? I didn’t get a call. Neither did my wife. We are both registered Republicans. We both love Sarah Palin. However, she can be annoying. After watching her Alaska show I eventually found her not to far from the actress that does the Progressive Insurance commercials. I think it is the whiney voice and she is constantly talking.

The straw poll vote was among the members of the New Hampshire Republican State Committee which was meeting to elect officers and conduct other business, etc. The Tea Party backed candidate Jack Kimball was elected NH State GOP Chairman. So if you weren’t a member of the committee and present then you wouldn’t have an opportunity to vote as I understand it.
