“in 1986, when his father couldn’t recall the names of California canyons he was flying over.”
Lapses in long-term memory are not a symptom of Alzheimer’s disease. It is the inability to form new memories that is the warning sign.
There is now real hope for a cure to this terrible disease, and it is probably in your kitchen cabinet:

There is no “Ron Jr.”
To be a junior, one has to have the same first, middle, and last name. In this instance, the middle names are different. The son is no junior, literally or figuratively.

His two kids he had with Nancy are the biggest embarrassment. They always have been all through his Presidency and they still feel compelled to be asses. Notice the three he had with Jane Wyman are respected, productive members of society? I wonder how much of this has to do with Nancy letting these spoiled brats have their own way. STFU little Ron.

"Alzheimer's develops over many years... Let me preface this by saying clearly - I AM NOT A DOCTOR - but, I believe Alzheimers does begin to cause damage to the brain years, even decades, before any of that damage is evident in the patient's cognitive abilities.
So, physiologically, it's possible and probably even likely that Reagan's brain was beginning to be effected by the disease while he was in office, but that's a LONG WAY from saying that his cognitive abilities were in anyway compromised by the disease during his presidential tenure.
To: Arec Barrwin
President with half a brain makes Obamma look like an idiot by comparison. Reagan was never the same after being shot. We all knew it. His effectiveness as a world leader remained largely unaffected due to his leadership and delegation.

The existence of Reagan’s son Ron is the best argument for abortion I’ve run into so far.
To: Arec Barrwin
I knew which son without even reading the post.
Ron jr. should be renamed Morden (son of King Arthur).
To: Arec Barrwin
As much as I revere RWR, I never had much use for Nancy. I’m thinking that Jr. actually has another daddy. Even if President Reagan did have Alzheimers, he was much more lucid that any of the twerps we’ve had since. Ron Jr. is a no class, ungrateful punk. What a jerk!

I’ve heard it said, like in this article, that he was exhibitng signs of Alzheimer’s in 1989, yet I’ve watched this clip from a British documentary (1992) and although I think Nancy looks a little nervous about him speaking on camera, I don’t notice any signs of Alzheimer’s. Of course those closest to Alzheimer’s patients can often see subtle signs that the general public would miss.
