I shall reply with a refreshed and enlightened effort.

My take on the OP was that it assisted in stating that perps, be they street or religious or nationality related, should not be thought of as just dumb trigger pullers in an action movie mode.

I believe your inferring that any police do not need what they have as equipment to deal with criminals, ok... you seem to be making a play at them using it against the general population that are not criminals... a little off topic, but ok as it is always good to watch what is going on with legal rights.

“dead police officers are statistically rare” - if you try that line of statement, best hope there are no past or serving police or family that have lost a loved one to a perp reading your effort, I have rode in remembrance to many local and national funerals for fallen police killed in the line of duty... your comment on statistics helps me make the choice to ride to the next one as well, just in case I can celebrate that it shall be the last one, statistically speaking.... /s

I hope you have a good day, and sadly, I post a link and info ...

According to the Officer Down Memorial Pages, about 50 officers die by gunfire from perps a year on average, sure glad they are accommodating your statistically rare statement, bad luck about the loved ones they left behind. http://www.odmp.org/

if you have an axe to grind against the police, that is your right, I will defend that, if you feel like grinding that axe in my direction, I shall allow you to do that as well, but please, stay on topic of the OP, else I will dismiss it to an obvious degree.

EL

"If you hesitate," one told the study’s researchers, "you’re dead.

Thanks to the ACLU and opportunistic lawyers, it's the cop who is most likely to hesitate.

This report does not mesh with actual empirical data on shootings. Folks that collect law enforcement data from video taped gunfights and police reports found that over 80% of shots fired by law enforcement personnel miss the bad guys. It was the common assumption (without data) that the bad guys did ever worse shooting.

The video taped confrontations also showed that in hundreds of law enforcement shootings, not a single cop used his gun sights. Spray and pray!

I firmly believe that if cops were issued single shot pistols and one cartridge, they would be forced to aim, end the fight in one shot and there would be far fewer cop widows.

What I see in this report is the message to law enforcement is to shoot first and ask questions later. This is setting up the police to wage war with the populace.

You might try reading the source article first. This description is about cop killers, not your average criminals. These are the people that choose to attack police. They aren't the guys being bested by store clerks.

I would say the report is 110% BS.

And here I thought most cops get killed in car wrecks and eating their own weapons. A purposeful attack almost never happen, unless the cop is out running someone else woman.

Nope. They are well trained in martial arts. Not organized martial skills but the stuff that works and for the street.

Guns, chuks, knives, etc. They practice and now they have Xbox to augment their training.

They wrestle with their buddies, box, observe and learn in groups.

They can look harmless because they are confident in their ability to perform.

It’s a mindset thing and preparedness. The thugs view you as the hapless victim and you, having prepared yourself for this eventuality are in fact prepared.

You look compliant but the truth is your are working your plan and next thing you know, there are perps laying on the floor.

Oh no! Oh well....

Man, I’d have it made if I could commit my boss to a 5-year study of something.

Your comment and links prove Edd's point. Of course it's bad when an officer is killed, but such happenstances are indeed statistically VERY rare in a nation the size of the US. Fifty per year in a nation of 300,000,000 citizens??? Not even a statistical blip.

One of my business ventures a long time ago wound up accidentally dealing with some very hard criminal types. I would take into a gunfight before any cop I have ever known. Several were x-US Spec Ops.

. Several were x-US Spec Ops.

Now THAT does give me cause for concern.

As far I know I have never known, or even met, a Spec Ops man, either ex or currently serving. Furthermore, I certainly don't want to meet one if he's on the other side in the fight that I hope and pray I will never have to experience.
