We should have kept it in our own pockets.

“50% of baby boomers (45 to 59) voted for Obama. 43% of people 60 and older voted for him.”

Do you have a link to a reliable source?

Whose fault is that? I’d say most American citizens who abandoned the work ethic, decided others like schools should raise their kids, who expected government to be their mama, decided some guy from Mexico should mow their lawn and thought free trade’s cheap prices wouldn’t hurt jobs in the USA.

In other words, you and me. Now that we are aware of our bad decisions, we have to work for an American renewal and start accepting responsibility for our fate.

Don’t include me in on that one. I didn’t abandon anything.

The truth is, there is no way possible to bank that amount of money without collapsing the economy on the way in, and collapsing it again on the way out.

That was the big lie about SS - the “Lockbox” was an economic impossibility.

Instead, the entire SS trust fund is a stack of US treasuries in an unsecured file cabinet in an office in WVA.

Bearer bonds.

I anticipate a Reichstag fire, followed by an announcement that the system is broke.

Yes, that is exactly how I see it.

Coincidentally this was the subject of yesterday’s main op-ed in the St.Paul Pioneer Press. Nothing we don’t all know but it’s always refreshing and worth remarking on when Big Media tells some truth:

The author missed the option that the current government is, in fact, taking - they are printing money.

They call it “qauntitative easing”, “monetizing the debt”, and other catch phrases - but they are printing money like Zimbabwe or the Weimarer Republic.

Tell me, if it takes a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy a loaf of bread, how many wheelbarrows full of cash does it take to buy a wheelbarrow?

Medicare is rationed health care, so how can the Boomers bankrupt it? Besides after 2014 FEW primary care doctor will see Medicare patients...not enough reimbursement.

I’ve already been turned down by one ortho doc. I have Medicare and Tricare for Life (retired military over 65, hubby is a retired Senior Chief over 65) as my secondary. My primary care doc is retiring rather than practice Deathcare.

I think it’s wrong to call SS a ponzi scheme. In fact based on the assumptions of the designers it was not a bad idea. They assumed smooth steady population growth. Perfectly reasonable assumption.

What they did not anticipate was WWII. They did not foresee that the soldiers would come home and begin an orgy of procreation. And when that orgy was over 10 years later SS was doomed. In 1964 it was absolutely inevitable that 50 years later it would fall apart. Inevitable. And people did predict it. I remember. I listened to them. I believed them.

And this is what is wrong with these big government programs. These BIG beautiful plans invented by very smart well intentioned people. They are fragile. They are incapable of adapting to change. And the only thing certain in this world is change. Our rulers have not learned this yet.
