I agree on most of this being unenforceable. NC is a separate property state vs. Community property. I don’t see how most of the $53 mil was contributed by her. Sounds like most of her time was spent having and casing for children. If I remember correctly he was the once getting massive settlements and making the money.
Sounds like she can put whatever she wants in her will but whether or not it is any good is the question.
John Edwards repeatedly begged his betrayed wife for her forgiveness. But she adamantly refuse to forgive her cheating husband for his affair. It was reported that as she lay dying Elizabeth angrily screamed at John: “You ruined my life — I’ll NEVER forgive you!’ – words that will probably haunt him for the rest of his life. The writer incorrectly assumes several things. First that John Edwards has a conscience, second that he has a soul, for he is , after all, a lawyer- the lowest form of life on planet earth. Another subset of this sad story is that Elizabeth (a lawyer) is metaphorically “screwing” John (another lawyer)from the grave. The answer to this problem is that John can “channel” Elizabeth from the grave and get forgiveness from her ghost...

I thoroughly believe that God reserves a special place in Hell for those who wantonly partake in the destruction of His covenant of marriage.
Many in NC knew John Edwards’ wife as a vindictive and sometimes cruel woman. Edwards married her to further his ambitions and she never let him forget it, belittled him publicly at times. While he no doubt made out quite well as an ambulance chaser prior to his very shortlived political career, I have no doubt that the vast majority of any estate was actually hers.
Spiting a child is a little much even for her, though. I smell at least a certain amount of sensationalism.
Who has primary custody of Elizabeth’s two little children? if it is John, the keeping them apart from Rielle’s daughter will not stand up in court. And if it is the eldest daughter, does John not have standing to fight that custody arrangement? Though if they take the children’s wishes into the decision, maybe they have chosen to live with their sister?
I despise John and hate what he did to her. He is such a low life. I hope his other dealings get him in prison.
I hope this is not true. Hating and cursing is no way to prepare yourself to meet your maker.

I would think this clause would be contestable and thus open the whole thing up to being contested. I hope she set aside a big pile of money to defend the will.

I agree. I am sorry the poor woman died and was tormented in her final years by an unfaithful husband but she cannot keep him and Rielle apart or keep their child from seeing his other children. I’m sure that John Edwards will realize his share of their homes and other assets and move on and do as he pleases.
I admire her for wanting John for once to pay for his crimes against her. I do not think this makes her look bad. Why do women have to be such doormats all the time, forgiving these horrible creatures, when if the situation were reversed, we’d support the man getting an upper hand over a cruel woman who had wronged him? She didn’t do anything illegal. G-d forbid he would dare speak at her funeral!
I was only one degree of Kevin Bacon removed from Elizabeth and in my contacts, she was a very good person. Maybe not much like me politically, but when it came to being a mom, she was excellent.
Unless he gave up his rights to the children I don’t see how much of this can hold up in court. I think EE was rotten toward the little girl. That child is innocent in all of this. Nothing like a woman scorned. Edwards will most likely contest this will unless they agreed to the terms. If Edwards earns any money after her death why can’t he leave it to whoever he wants to? Glad I am not rich sometimes.

And you seem very confident that EE was warm, tender, and kind until she was cheated on. Money says she was a lower level of the same kind of harshness. Typical corporate culture witch,, if you havent known many, you are a lucky person.

Uhhmmm, if this article is true, probably not. You might want to brush up on what Jesus said right after He taught us to pray. And then there’s that whole unmerciful servant thing - she better hope that there is a purgatory, or that she has already paid what she owes. God help her.
I’m surprised by many of the reactions here. Freepers usually equally hate and damn to hell cheating husbands and those who harm cats and dogs. I don’t think the article was meant to be critical of EE. Nor is most of what she did that surprising. The negatives are the attempt to use her money to control JE after her death and to prevent her children from ever seeing the half sibling. Yes she was bitter but understandably so. In the great scheme of things JE could not “ruin her life” but many people think this way. She was pissed that’s for sure.
Do you live in Orange County, NC? This woman was not “lovely”. Any more than Ted Kennedy was sensitive to Mary Jo Kopechne’s family.
She and her man Edwards were peas in the pod in political leftist skullduggery. So much so, that she could not get treatment in any medical center in NC, not in Charlotte, and not at UNC and certainly not at Duke- no, she went to Baaahston. They were/and he is despised by the NC medical community and for good reason.
She was an attorney and in it up to her neck, not unlike Bill and Hillary. The idea that she “was betrayed” is ludicrous- she knew what Edwards was doing 10 years ago. A professional political lefty couple- all facade. The way the two used the death of their son puts pay to everything else, and also lends some credence to this tabloid screed. That said, who cares about either one of them. The only ones to have a care about are their (various) kids who could not affect the outcome of their socialist looney, greedy power hungry parents. They will not be missed.
