You're correct. Only those who've run for office as a Democrat, or been previously involved in Democrat party political shenanigans and chicanery should be called RINOs.
The guys who voted for this particular treaty should simply be tarred with the appellation "STUPID POS".
I think that does the trick quite well, and keeps the cachet of RINO intact.
I have thought about the necessity for a distinction for some time.
With the rise of TEA Party conservatives to the point of open disagreement with establishment Republicans a new lexicon is needed. It should reflect the opportunistic nature of the politician attempting to ride the coattails of TEA Party conservatism.
It should only be offensive enough to be distasteful yet represent an accurate description of the actions of the recipient.

That is close ~
Some of the effort being put into destroying the utility of the word RINO is coming from Southerners who used to be Democrats who don't want us to remember that and turn on them.
They recall how quickly we walked away from Trent Lott and Newt Gingrich and that quite hapless Livingston guy in between Newt and Dennis.
They think the time for "testing" is over.

They think the time for "testing" is over. Test results in the long term do not indicate many passing grades.

Here's both my qualifier and my bona fides for the opinion that follows: I earned my Republican stripes working for a GOP U.S. senator, for Ronald Reagan's first successful presidential campaign and for Newt Gingrich. Typical republican elite insider!
Your opinion means zilch to the Conservatives who want real change in government!

We want fundamental change in human behavior. The government itself is fine ~ so, the way you get that change is pick different human beings.
Maybe a couple of amendments here and there, but for the most part it's the people.

McCain betrays conservative values on a consistant basis; the voting record is misleading, at best, due to the nature of how votes come to the floor in the Senate.
He’s been pro-illegals and weak on basically everything since he’s been in office.

Let’s get rid of all the RINOs and let the rats run everything again. Then conservatives will be happy.
