I have confronted a lot of dogs, mostly because I have done a lot of running. Postal carriers confront even more, but only carry pepper spray. I have come close, but have never shot a dog that was coming at me. When I run now, I carry a stick. Dogs understand sticks.

The article says the dog was not on a leash. but does not say if it was inside or out of its yard.

The -original- “unmodified” article -clearly- stated it was wearing an underground fence collar, was still firmly on its on property and never stepped off said property.
During the posts made on this thread
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2645342/posts
the article kept “changing” to project “less guilt” on the part of the cop.
Some speculate that the source was monitoring FR and “changing” actual details to cast doubt upon the improper actions of the cop.

The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard.
Shot dead in its own yard for failing to respond properly to to the commands of an Almighty Officer of the Law. Merry Christmas.

The union will blame the town for LEO’s not having LEO/Canine training. Further, the officer will retire on full disability due to the nightmares he will now have about huge hounds, house size house bounding out of the darkness at him. The city DPW will issue a ticket for improper disposal of a dog. DSS will take the kids. The mother will be sued by the cop.

This cop has proven himself to be totally complete Dumb-a55.
To: Salamander
Doesn’t matter. Dogs are fair game. So it goes.

The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said. Well, there you have it. A dog should always obey the orders of a law enforcement official.

And the dumb-a55 slice of the pie chart keeps growing. Cops are dangerous to encounter these days. Stay clear of them, if you can.

there was also an initial report that it was 4 in the morning and the cop was responding to a burglery alarm. That story fell off the radar very fast.

Bad LEO! Bad!
We cannot train a dog not to bark, maybe we can train a LEO?
Nah, the dog is probably easier to train.

Also, why was the cop on foot patrol if you are looking for a suspicious vehicle? I can safely say that other than some parks and downtown venues I have never seen cops in any metro Atlanta area on foot. If they don’t have a car it is almost always bike or horse.

Yep. There is no cost to them for their behavior. So far, at least.

Any cop that kills an innocent family dog should be castrated with a dull cheese grater.

The officer ordered the dog to stopHow does he know the dog understands English? What if the dog were trained to only respond to German? For this he gets shot dead? Don't this guys have spray, batons, etc.?

I think this particular dog only spoke Spanish! LOL. Too bad these RABID cops are so darn trigger-happy, though.
