If it is then that would be HIGHLY indicative that this IS indeed premeditated murder.

I'm 99.9 percent sure the officer had his service weapon in hand when he exited his vehicle...

Well, the guy repeatedly alleged that cops get their homes seized as a result of civil suits, clearly implying this as a result of on the job actions such as bad shoots, excessive force etc...

It's even worse than that. In Reply #236 Crunchie claimed that a cop could be jailed for failing to take action to stop someone who later committed a crime.

I can only answer one call for service at a time. Yes, gangsters and corrupt politicians have controlled cities forever and illegal aliens are running rampant.

Unfortunately mankinds fallen nature seems to be falling further and further lately.

Maybe we can soon do away with the police and have something better come along. Maybe UN soldiers. Maybe Obama’s private police. Perhaps another wild, wild west. We certainly cannot count on mankind to step up and do what’s right.

Whoever it is I’ll be happy. I’ve had my fill. Another year and I’m done.

What is really disturbing here, is others up thread said the knife only had a 3 inch blade...This guy was not assaulting anyone, not robbing anyone...not even threatening anyone...He was so enthralled carving the piece of wood, he never even noticed the LEO stop at the crosswalk limit line....

Then, the LEO exits his vehicle with weapon at the ready, in hand.

This city and it's tax payers will lose *millions* over this...

Like I said, it’s too blurry for me to tell.
If it was his sidearm the man should be killed for murder.
I’m sick of “he should be in prison” — f*ck prison, to cage a man up for his life is to rob him of all human dignity — because that’s what that sentiment is about: stripping someone of their life while remaining innocent of technically killing them and then claiming some sort of “moral superiority” over those who would be more honest.

Since the officer did not act within the scope of his duties, and his dept. has already said the shooting was not justified, perhaps he will be held personally liable and foot some of the bill himself?

Nah, that will never happen.

Watch the video, then ping your lists...
I think this is just more proof that until public officials start paying for their misdeeds things will not get better in any real sense of the word.

“Maybe we can soon do away with the police and have something better come along. Maybe UN soldiers. Maybe Obama’s private police. Perhaps another wild, wild west. We certainly cannot count on mankind to step up and do what’s right.”

...but you couldn’t be bothered to suggest citizens exercising their right to keep and bear arms with followup assistance by the local sheriff?

Now you are really revealing your true colors?

Just damn. Prayers for John T. Williams family. I realize the days of ‘protect and serve’ are over but this is just murder.

I sympathize...

After watching this, I spent all morning wondering, “Could this happen to me?”

Then the thought progressed to, “How?”

I realized that in my case it would probably happen while turning holding a cell phone looking to see who is yelling at 1/2 deaf me...

I actually hate cellphones, and try to go outside when I have to use one so as not to bother people.

I can see where the uptick in paranoia is coming from nowadays.

As this old guy lays dead on the sidewalk, you still seem to be looking for sympathy for the cop in this case...

He might possibly do a year or two in the joint, lose his job, off without pay....But it'll be the *taxpayers* who pay millions for this brutal assault on this old guy who was minding his own business, was not attacking, robbing or threatening *anyone*.

As I've been saying for some years now, it's getting extremely difficult to remain pro-law enforcement.

From the first time the policeman says the word “down”, as in “put the knife down”, to the first gunshot is no more than 3.5 seconds. Bad shoot, cop better have a very good lawyer and pray that there isn’t video from another angle.

From my notes I have the cops first shout begining at 00:00:18 and the firs shot fired at 00:00:24.

In the video there’s something in the officer’s hand when he passes in front of his dash-cam, it’s too blurry for me to make out

Yes. But very late in the video he makes about the same path and the gun is clearly in the holster. That it is not clearly in the holster earlier tends to indicate that it was not in the holster.

He shouts HEY, HEY, HEY which means nothing to anybody who doesn’t recognize the voice. The sentence “put the knife down” identifies who he is talking to. From that point barely 3.5 seconds pass before the first round is fired.

Agreed. I was just adding more perspective.

Most bothersome to me? Why in the world would a cop with a gun be closing on a guy with a knife without even considering the guy with the knife isn’t threatening anybody?

Unfortunately my friend John has the exact same name as this guy did.

But from the news story where this guy was convicted of exposure and his picture, both posted by different folks here showed me that it was not my friend John.

But I sincerely thank you for the information.

“This cop is a disgrace and should be tried for murder.”

I AGREE 100% WITH YOU!

You must have missed the sarcasm tag.

If I were the lady I’d want to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. No telling if the cop thought she had nail trimmers on her or something!
