SONOBUOY PING!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.

Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

Imagine that, it closely resembles the Cobra. They are going back to the thinner, longer design, which makes for a much better gunning platform.

Back to? The Marines never left. This thing is just another generation of the Cobra. They never stopped using them. They just keep upgrading them.

“The Marines are amazing at just how much life they get out of equipment (probably because they’re always underfunded). I swear you could send an MEU ashore with Sopwith Camels, 1903 Springfields, and Krag-Jorgensens, and they’d still kick every ass in sight.

I always wonder if the engineers who design things like the original Huey and Cobra ever imagined “their” designs would still be in active service long after they retired?”

My son flies a CH-46E “Phrog” out of Camp Pendleton. He tells me that he is not only flying the same TYPE of aircraft flown by the Corps in the late 70’s, he is actually flying the SAME aircraft that they used in the 70’s!

“I was issued an ancient .45 in Vietnam that was stamped “1899.” “

1899? What kind, revolver?

Aren’t the Indians evaluating the Apache?

[1899? What kind, revolver?]

No, it was the same as a 1911.

It may have been a very early serial number, but not a date, if that’s what you were meaning.

Couldn’t just buy Apache’s??

With a product sold to both the Army and Marines, which customer will get priority? With a product sold only to Marines, the producer BETTER keep the USMC happy.

[It may have been a very early serial number, but not a date, if that’s what you were meaning.]

There was a serial number. The 1899 was a patent date. I had this pistol for approximately four months when I was a gunner on a crew served weapon. I showed it to many people because I believed it to be rare.
