The son’s worked for the market making side or legit side of the family business. This is where Madoff started. They probably could have just stayed in that business and made a decent living.

The son’s had to have been sophisticated enough to realize that Bernie’s claimed large and consistent returns in the separate “money management” business were essetially impossible.

Sad for the children. Many of the investors and feeders in Madoff’s scam were unpleasant people. Irving Piccard, the trustee, is going after Sonja Kohn in Austria hard. She was his major connection in Europe.

Bernie hurt a lot of people. His feeders like Sonja Kohn, Shapiro, Jaffee and the Noel family in CT need for hurtin.

2 feeders are dead including Picower who may have been whacked.

(gotta wonder about the symbolism using a dog leash)

Like he couldn't afford a rope, or a gentle bottle of pills and a private spot to go to, or a hot air balloon, rather than hang himself where his young child could see him?

In February, Mark Madoff's wife petitioned a court to change her last name and the last names of their two children, saying her family had gotten threats...

But he hanged himself with a dog leash in a loft apartment, when he could have fallen out a window....

I’m sad for the little boy who lost his Daddy.

The worst thing in the world is to outlive your child, and this worst feeling in the world is being felt this second in prison by a Bernie Madoff. Even worse is that he knows he caused his son’s death. Kinda makes me smile.

I dunno, I'd pictured Bernie Madoff as having a George Soros type of conscience.

Perhaps this was an assisted suicide.

"The worst thing in the world is to outlive your child"

I don't recommend it. But someone has to hang around and celebrate all that they were and remember ...

His child was in bed, and just before he offed himself he sent a text to his wife telling her to check on the boy, she was in Florida I believe. She immediately called her father who went over and found him dead, the little boy was sleeping in his bedroom and didn’t know what happened.

"His child was in bed, and just before he offed himself he sent a text to his wife telling her to check on the boy, she was in Florida I believe."

Or, more accurately, a text from his phone to his wife's phone said to check on the boy.

How easily we assume...

I like a good conspiracy theory myself, but this one just feels like a guy who hoped that the Hindus, Buddhists or Sikhs are right and he gets another chance.

Just commenting on how easily we assume certain things that we really don’t know.

I believe he was a Jew.

I don’t remember ‘another chance’ being part of their culture.

Nope, that’s why I used the word hoped, he knew he was committing a mortal sin doing it otherwise.

That might mean only that the hit man doesn’t do two for the price of one...and the client didn’t want a 2-yr-old done.

As for the email, “write it or I’ll have to wake the baby.”

Most folks know the reference here is to phone texting, not a textbook. Another spin-off of our tech society.

Dear God this family has been though Hell. Yes he was criminal and ruined many lives but to lose a child before you pass away is the WORST.
