The main Wikileaks servers are in Sweden. There are KNOWN mirrors in the US and Switzerland. The actual data is spread everywhere.
The most the US might have been able to do is get the primary Wikileaks domains (wikileaks.com/net/org/us/etc.) redirected to another site, like ICE did with some sites hawking counterfeit goods recently.
But, the mirrors would have simply popped up somewhere else. And since multiple media organizations already had access to the data, it was a moot point.
How come our government can shut down the websites of companies that sell fake Gucci handbags, but can’t shut this site down?

It probably wont be the U.S. that does it. Think about all the people who are not happy about these leaks and don’t have any constraints on their power...kings, princes, despots, and dictators. Not to mention the folks on the lower end of the scale that will be in hot water and want revenge.

I keep thinking about what would have happened in my Dad’s day during the cold war...they would have never let it get this far. Assange would have met a bullet in the head and little snit Manning would have OD’d in a bathhouse.
