I'm limited to Tylenol and darvocet. :(
I called the pain dr today, was told there isn't anything else I'm able to take. :(
This really sux.
Thanks for making that decision for me. I really appreciate your looking out for me like this. I couldn't do it on my own, you know.
Thank God I'm equally entitled to think and write that you are a self-righteous kook.
Doctors don't PUSH pain meds on folks who don't want or need them. Society has progressed some since the ages when we had to bite on a belt to endure pain without cracking all of our teeth.
Mark my words. It's coming.
Well, I’m glad that you and your husband know what’s best for all of the rest of us. I hope y’all approve of salt usage.
It is all about total control.
It is all about total control.
Yep--busybodies who think they know my body better than I do, and want to force their will on me. It's control at the point of a gun, and I, for one, have had enough.
Hang in there. There will be an answer.
Darvon is a moderate strength pain reliever somewhat more strength that two extra strength Tylenol and lasts longer...
It is a shame that a drug that has had about 10 million prescriptions a year in the U.S. for many many years with no adverse clinical record of what this so called ‘study’ found plus Darvon is of moderate cost to the patient... It is a shame and an outrage - a manipulation.
I haven’t taken Darvon in years - but many years ago when I suffered migraine headaches ... Darvon cut the mind numbing pain ... not totally but Darvon made a bad situation a lot better for little cost...
So - we are now left with a choice of Tylenol and highly addictive and often abused pain killers - HOW STUPID!
Just going by evidence-based studies. In double-blind studies where people don’t know what they’re taking, the Darvocet and the Tylenol work the same with patients’ subjective degree of pain. The person who prescribes the drug is ultimately the one who is responsible for anything that goes wrong whatsoever so why should they give anything with abuse potential that hasn’t been shown to work better than the alternatives? (also, they don’t like being awakened at night because someone is in too much pain).
I was just saying that controlled studies show its ineffectiveness. The placebo effect is quite real - generally 30% effectiveness over no pill at all - and Tylenol is, after all, a pain reliever. I don’t disagree with narcotics at all - wonderful drugs that God provided us and that we have learned to use to their best (yes, also worst) advantage. I think the DEA is far too rigid about cracking down on docs who prescribe pain relief and that a lot of physicians are too scared to prescribe adequate relief.
Heck, I even approve of medical marijuana. Oh, and salt too as long as it doesn’t affect your blood pressure (it only has effect on a relatively small percentage of hypertensives). I also think heroin should be legalized in the same schedule as morphine. It works better for pain than morphine.
So no need to get snippy. I just don’t see the point in prescribing drugs that haven’t been shown to work.
What an odd post. Are you asserting that there aren’t legitimate uses and reasons for strong analgesics? Ever seen a cancer patient? Ever had surgery or had an accident or broke a limb? How about an abscessed tooth? How about a kidney stone?
Does this mean that the drug should be pulled from the market? Just because a double-blind study shows that, overall, the drug is no more effective than Tylenol doesn't mean that, for a subset of people, the drug isn't effective. In any case, the federal government is being heavy handed (as usual) here.
Not snippy, just direct.
I’d almost bet that there’s a new drug out there that replaces these effective staples, but is too new for a generic version to be out. FDA helping their big pharma friends again.
Yes,
I’m hoping something comes along that I’m not allergic to.
I reminded myself today that at least I have Tylenol.
(for now)
Its some comfort to know I’m not the only one.
Okay - the numbers - RAW as they are ... 50 years on the market... say the first 25 years averaged 3M users a year - 75 million doses... then then next 15 years at 5 million users in the U.S. alone - that adds another 75 million... then in the last 10 years - at 10 million prescriptions - that adds another 100 million users — so 250 million clinical uses of Darvon over 50 years (a conservative estimate) ... So I ask where are the photos of the dead people? Where are the newspaper headlines? Where is the report of the Congressional hearings...?
Oh - there are none ... amazing... Sound like the claim that Carbon Dioxide is a planetary poison...
Aspirin can thin the blood to the detriment of some people... Tylenol can hammer the kidneys when taken too often and for too long ... or when taken with alcohol intake... Salt promotes high blood pressure - FOR SOME... Old fashion Sulfa drugs had problems - but also cured a lot of diseases... Some Anti-Malarial drugs have side effects that hurt some - but also saved millions... The list is endless...
There is more to this story of Darvon banning...
I do too.
I was given it for a pain in the elbow I got from tightening a bolt too hard.
I thought nothing more of it until the next morning I woke up and a chronic pain that had been in my shoulder for more than five years was suddenly gone.
Such agency's were put in place to make rules that the congress critters don't have to take credit for and put in jeopardy their jobs.. they should all be disbanded..
That was my first thought as well. I'm figuring they have something in the pipeline with a patent on it that they can charge a lot more for.
