Let's say it was launched from a submerged site ( one of ours), but was launched by some foreign power... one that wasn't able to arm the nuke on board... Would that be worth lying about? Or maybe they were able to 'arm' the nuke but chose not to... If Americans thought our nukes could be re-aimed at our cities, it would cause a panic. Right?
So, if the cameraman, who you seem to hold in such high esteem, was correct in saying this object was traveling toward his camera, west to east, why was it traveling so slow?
I have yet to see any evidence that the camerman said it was moving west to east. Heck, I haven't even heard a talking head say it! All I have seen is a news report with a talking head who said the camerman said it looked like an incoming missile. The camerman was I think in the Santa Monica area, where something launched vertically in a northwest direction from the area of San Nicolas Island could certainly look like it was headed for the mainland and toward you. Actually, San Nicolas is about 75 miles southwest of Santa Monica; Santa Catalina is about 38 miles nearly due south of Santa Monica.
The lighting of the object in the video clearly shows that it is headed northwest. The sun was setting at the time.
A sea-level launch a mere seven miles out would be "beyond the horizon" as seen from the beach.
From reports I've seen, no one has said the object was seen for ten minutes. What I've seen said is that the camerman filmed for 10 minutes. What seems probable is that the majority of the film shows only the remaining missile plume, and that's why we haven't seen the entire 10 minutes.
Sound data is in the video where the angle of the sunlight shows that it is moving in a northwesterly direction.
As for the speed, once again, eyewitness experience of many missile shots over many years tells me that the speed of the object in the video is moving entirely too fast to be a plane, and SURELY you must know, with all your experience photographing aircraft, that THE NAKED EYE could probably determine whether an object supposedly headed for Ontario airport (50 miles due east of Santa Monica), in clear skies, was a plane or a missile and ABSOLUTELY eyes aided by binoculars could tell. If you need a set of mathematical calculations to prove that, then it's a wonder you can accurately identify 10 percent of what you come across ever day.
You know about cameras, I don't; tell me -- would a professional set-up for airborne camera work include zoom lenses of the same power as a pair of binoculars?
It's moot in any case, because the object in the video was headed northwest, not east, as a plane coming from San Nicolas toward Ontario would have to be doing.
You are asking me to "prove" something I don't even claim!
I did. In fact, I listened TWICE.
Know what? NO ONE IN THE LINK YOU POST said “it was coming in the Est and going to the East.”
Not the cameraman, not the two talking heads. NO ONE MADE THAT CLAIM.
One of the talking heads said the cameraman said he thought it looked like an incoming missile; from the Santa Monica area, something headed north-west would look incoming due to the curve of the coastline. Neither you nor I know if the cameraman actually said that, or if he said it and explained that while it may have looked “incoming” it was actually not, which is entirely within the realm of something he would say and how it would be misreported. Also, the camerman doesn’t say he focused on the missile for ten minutes — the talking head says the reporter “stayed on it” for ten minutes. The talking head is a boob who probably thinks filming the remains of a missile plume is the same as “staying on it.” The cameraman, at least in this video, made no such claim, NOR did he OR ANYONE ELSE say it was east-bound.
The sun tells you where the missile was going. The sun tells you it was going in a north-westerly direction.
The cameraman’s original words and the various talking heads mistaken interpretations of what he said, have been intertwined, and now it is nearly impossible to separate them.
As you pointed out, nearly all of the arm chair general’s here have vastly “mis-quoted” what the cameraman was saying ... which tells you a lot about them.
The “Egyptian mathematics” are wrong in that none of the parameters are known: not the distance, not the height, no the time factor, not the wind strength, etc -— so no valid calculations can be made and his angry contentions have no valid base to them.
Furthermore, I have zero reason to think that the camerman said the main "juice" in the video, which looks exactly like a whole lotta missile launches I've seen and not at all like any airplane contrails heading I've seen, let alone from airliners heading for an airport a scant 18 miles away from me, was ten minutes after launch. What he told others was that he filmed for 10 minutes.
"...spinning and going in a westerly direction." He also says "...it continued up into the sky and finally disappeared." If it had been approaching him, especially for a landing in LA, it should have been easy to see as it got bigger and descended.
Can't you see that the SLBM is moving away from the viewer, away from land, going out to the north and out to sea, and is getting smaller ???
Lieutenant General McInerny could see it.
Robert Ellsworth could see it.
Doug Richardson could see it.
Marcos Caceras could see it. I could see it."Finny" could see it.
The whole world can see it except for 5 angry bloggers on FR using a few vapor thin wispy vapor trail still photographs from other times and other places.
One can easily see, as General McInerney has pointed out, the rise, the missile course correction.
That Is A Missile Shot From A Submarine! says famed 3 star General Thomas G. McInerney, a command pilot with more than 4,100 flying hours, including 407 combat missions.
Or as the Under Secretary of Defense said "It is spectacular!!!" and it is!!! "It takes your breath away" and it does.
"It is an underwater launched SLBM missile" and that is exactly what it is, and it is very very easy to see. I have seen many from Pt. Mugu, Vandenberg, and Cape Canaveral.
Wake up people, it is a major event of unknown origin and you are being lied to by your government for unknown reasons.
Gee, an ICBM launch lights up the sky off a city of ten million and this is the sum total reaction?
Not at all plausible.
Huh? So instead of an ordinary aircraft contrail, now it has to be a missile of —ours— that was hacked by a foreign power and launched without our ability to stop it.
Really...?
Even so... If that was the case... Why not explain it as one or our own?
Good grief.

> This is basic the earth is round high school physics.

No, this is basic shills trying to overpower logic and facts on Freerepublic. Its been going on here for over 13 years.
.
I still think if you’re looking for anti-FReeper trolls the one/s who keep spamming these threads with keywords like this are prime candidates.
2manykooks;dailynutjobthread; freerepublickooks; freerepublickooksite;
Yes
Why do they do that?
Is it “allowed” to insult FR like that? Doesn’t it hurt us all?
Been there, done that:
you are being lied to by your government for unknown reasons.
Unknown, unknown, unknown. Sure. You got bupkis. Along with a bunch of fear and panic.
Someone needs a can of "Cowboy Up." :)
Heh... Logic and facts.
Hehehe... Yeah, right.
Scotty... Beam me up.
Another thing that photo shows is the wind distortion of different layers of air, vertically, not the effects of cross winds at the same altitude.
Most of the Contrail Conmen are frequent shills here on other topics too.
Their arguments on those threads are just as crazy as their arguments here. Dont be too bothered by it. You can judge the importance attached to FR by the intensity of the shilling activity.
Its become a tradition here. They made complete fools of themselves with their center tank explosion theory for TWA 800.
Wow
They certainly are intense and vicious.
And their arguments surprise me: animated gifs that do not reflect reality, Generals who “certainly glad he is retired”, FReepers who “should go back to high school”... and that we are “borderline insane”.
Wild and weird.

Who crashed the markets on 9/28/08 and why?
Yes.
Who did?
And the investigation was ...
keyword spamming is never appreciated but not often dealt with. Those additions indicate a little more than just a problem with the subject matter though don’t they?
Adolescent.
I don't even HAVE a conspiracy theory, if you notice! Again, like Werhner von Braun might say, that's not my department. I would be totally out of my league trying to even guess.
But it is well within my league to look at that video in the context of the region where it was shot and surmise -- accurately -- that it shows a missile launch. Pure as day. I am too familiar with the area to think otherwise.
You've watched missile launches. You've watched the video. The lighting of the setting sun clearly shows that it's headed northwest. You know that people are claming this object is supposed to be a plane headed north-east to an airport a scarce 50 miles due east from the camerman. Honestly -- how on earth can you square two conflicting items -- the direction and the distance and elevation such a plane would have to be -- with the idea that it was too far away to tell if it was an airliner or a missile?
If the object in flight left the surface of the earth 35 miles away from the observer, and was observed for 10 minutes,
None of these assumptions are known to be true.
No accurate numbers have been ascertained at all, and so your huge “mathematical” posts are all baseless.
And by the way, before you violently and viciously attack me, I was a very advanced mathematics star university honors student up until the age of 20 when I stopped and switched to comparative linguistics ...
