That is great news to hear this morning. Last night I thought he was projected to win. That makes my day.

Oberstar bounced out of a seat Democrats had held since 1947. Republicans control both houses of the Minnesota legislature for the first time in a generation.

There is some serious gnashing of teeth and weeping into lattes at the Star Trib.

Nobody, that is, except Cravaack, a newcomer to politics who seemed to be giving Oberstar the fight of his political life.

Seemed??? Someone's in denial. I love it!

Congratulations, MN.

Jim Oberstar, who for 18 terms represented one of the safest Democratic seats in the nation

This is just wrong. Nobody, nobody is a "public servant" for 18 terms.

And the seat was held by a Democrat, Blatnik for many years before that. Oberstar worked for Blatnik and took over the seat when he retired.

Oberstar was a Watergate baby I believe.

This is one of the most important effects of the election, is that long-time and deeply entrenched Congress Critters like Oberstar are finally being dug out and forcibly removed from the Congress.

It’s like digging out weeds, roots and all.

Seeing some entrenched Democrat like Oberstar defeated makes up in part for Harry Reid winning. It looks like the GOP took the MN Legislature, but the Governor’s race is a cliffhanger that I’m sure will bring out SEIU and ACORN with boxes of phony ballots just like they did for Franken. If Dayton becomes governor I would soon expect to see billboards with Jesse Ventura’s picture saying “Miss me yet?”.

Amazing.

Though I had my share of disappointments last night (Nick Popaditch, Dr. Steele, Patrick Murray, Sean Bielat), this was a major disaster for the communists. I'm still picking through the wreckage and am happy to see the ever-expanding list of high profile scalps that conservatives have taken. Libertarians and conservatives are taking on the communists in their districts - not insignificant.

YAY! Is a recount in the cards? No recount EVER goes Republican.

For Minnesota pro-lifers, there's more good news this morning.

Republicans have gained majorities in both houses of the legislature for the first time in about 40 years. Pro-aborts in previous Democrat majorities, especially in the MN Senate, had bottled up pro-life legislation in committee, refusing to let it out on the floor for up-or-down votes. They had reason to be afraid: Minnesota does have a fair number of pro-life Democrat legislators.

There's much more reason for Minnesota pro-aborts to be afraid now.

Happy day from someone who came from da Range in the 8th district.

When I heard that old senile coot talking about cap and trade I nearly died. The best jobs in the 8th district are in the iron mines who burn tons of diesel a day to power the plants. They have had enough of furloughs, layoffs and call backs and have finally realized how glad they are to have jobs.

I never thought I would see it come on the red range. Growing up there as a republican you really felt outnumbered.

It is not all rosy up here in the 8th today, but it is better. We did replace the house and senate with Republicans, but the liberals still control the city council and school board. (Though we did make some inroads into the school board as well i guess)We can’t win them all.

I see that the governor's race in MN is still not decided. I'm guessing that they are printing more ballots on the Iron Range to make sure Dayton wins.

I lived in MN when Dayton started running for office and funding his campaigns with his own money. The rest of his family were giving large amounts to his opposition, but I guess he insisted on playing at politics because he has nothing else to do.

I was also there the last time that the Republicans controlled the legislature (at least the House -- I think the Senate was still DFL-controlled). And I saw Ronald Reagan just miss winning the state in 1984 by less than one vote per precinct.

I left the state in disgust, but now I'm happy to see that MN might finally realize that California is not a good model to emulate.
