Speaking of sharp knives, unless you have had a partial glossectomy, shouldn't your handle be "SleightOfTongue"

To cover my a$$, I apologize if you indeed had a glossectomy.

Had to google "Kinsley gaffe":

In U.S. politics, a Kinsley gaffe (or "gaffe in Washington") is an occurrence of someone telling the truth by accident. Typically, it refers to a politician inadvertently saying something publicly that they privately believe is true, but would ordinarily not say publicly because they believe it is politically harmful. The term comes from journalist Michael Kinsley, who said, "A gaffe is when a politician tells the truth."

Is it just me, or does Liberalism and Islam have eerily similar methods of dealing with dissent and criticism?

Many good links and tips, thanx.

The ThinkProgress linked article (your link) was making this point about Juan WIlliams's comments:

Indeed, a RAND study back in 2008 warned of the danger of playing into terrorists’ claims of being “at war” with the West, saying it “encourages others [extremists] abroad” and “elevates them to the status of holy warriors. Terrorists should be perceived and described as criminals, not holy warriors.” The RAND analysis also suggested that the “at war” approach “alienates the local population by its heavy-handed nature, and provides a window of opportunity for terrorist-group recruitment.”

It's a valid point. RAND would prefer that commentators like Williams and O'Reilly not give way to "civilizational war" thinking, which is a major, original OBL objective, but instead emphasize the criminality and unsanctionability of terrorism.

Of course, OBL still has the Koran on his side, and Abu Ayman just produced a new, long exegetical tract urging Koranic authority for OBL's agenda. But by the same token, Abu Ayman's new tract proves that at least he and OBL recognize that big percentages of Moslems worldwide don't (yet) buy their poison.

"Media mores" need to take a drink, and get real.

Oh, wait -- they already drink.

Well, what else is out there?

Juan threw in the word "puppeteer" with regard to Soros.

Juan also seemed to be especially angry about the psychoanalyst role "that woman" (Rove's words) played in her remarks Atlanta advising Juan, in effect, to consult his psychiatrist or publicist.

Let's recall the psychoanalyst role Obama has played in recent observations about American citizens who disagree with his policies. Those citizens are "angry," or "scared," unable to "think clearly."

Sound familiar?

If so, is it just possible that the great Puppeteer (Psychoanalyst George Soros) pulls strings controlling more folks that just the NPR CEO and her minions?

Pretending we are not at war does not change the fact of war. It only takes one side to have a war. The choice of the other side is then surrender or war.

Bluntly, I don’t think “civilizational war” rhetoric makes a hoot of difference. Islam has been at war with the rest of the world for centuries—sometimes with greater and sometimes with lesser effect. We happen to be on the same globe with Islam. Eventually, we were going to be at war with Islam. Might as well be now.

I hire Indian programmers. One has become a friend. After the Mumbai attacks, we talked about Islam. Turns out he grew up with tales, centuries old, of muslim invaders, raping and pillaging India.

Both spellings are acceptable - 'sleight' & 'slight'. If you search online it will show both spellings. I believe 'sleight' is the old English spelling, but Americans use both. It's not a big deal since it's only a play on words anyway. And no, I didn't have a glossectomy and hope I never have to.

Or to paraphrase Fitzgerald, the test of a really first-rate network is the ability to hold two opposing thoughts in the minds of its journalists simultaneously, and still retain the ability to broadcast.

They fail that test daily.  A recent example was a panel discussion on ATC where there was 5 panelists discussing the flotilla incident earlier this year, and not one person defended Israel.

Islam has been at war with the rest of the world for centuries—sometimes with greater and sometimes with lesser effect.

True enough, not contested. And yes, I'd heard about subcontinental atrocities from my Bombay inlaws. (Side note: in my NSHO, it's still "Bombay" in English howbeit they like Hindi "Mumbai" better now -- we've never spelled "Turin", "Torino", nor "Naples" "Napoli", n/w/s our spellings are English's own: same goes for Pinyin spellings, btw, which I now shun, since I don't take lessons in anything from Communists. The capital of China is Peking.)

But Islam has been quiescent for generations on end, with interruptions; and the most recent quiet period that ended with Qutb's bitch-bitch-bitching about Americans, was achieved by the generous British application of canister at Omdurman in the Sudan 120 years ago.

RAND seems to think we have something of a salvageable asset in non-Salafist Moslem thinking, which we ought to be encouraging to remain non-Salafist insofar as possible.

Because we still have the Chinese to worry about.

rAND is full of crap in trying to stay away from calling this war because they are full of fear, shaking and cowering about what the Arab stinkingStreet will think.

If we fought islam like we fought WW2, it would be the Arab Street that would be trying to figure out how to pronounce every single word that came out of their mouths so as not to provoke the Americans.

FOX is a private company. NPR receives our tax dollars. Big difference.

I did catch that and he was very good. He was “indignant” and I love to hear that being thrown back at them. They are always “indignant” and it’s time we show how “indignant” we are, too.

Is there video of this ‘indignant rant’? I can’t stand watching the O’Viley program daily to catch stuff like this.

You might check YouTube or or FNC Home Page.

I don’t like Rove either but he does know the numbers. I blame him for very bad advice he gave George Bush. Bush would never fight back and defend himself and I bet Rove was behind that. Rove is a Country Club Republican jerk.

No problem. But, that’s par. We’ve all had those and ragged on others to relieve the steam. I’ve done it all too often, even here at FR. Since I’m retired, I don’t have to do the ‘moron boss scene’ anymore.(assuming that’s what you were involved in, maybe not). Just need to stay on my toes and not get my Jeep Cherokee reposessed from some twit local banker and a few other usual financial trappings.
