‘Human nature dictates that the guilty will react with violent defensive attack. . .’
Your post is the type that inflames this discussion.
Your sanctimonious and self-righteous attitude only shows the depravity in your own soul.
None of us were there so no one here is ‘guilty’ as you say, and neither are you more righteous beause of your condemnation. Get off your high horse already.

“As I made it clear in my post, I have high regard for Yankees who respect the South. I respect those who respect us.”
NO...you don’t. You stated quite clearly you wish you could go back in time and stop my family at Eilis Island and send them back.

“Maybe pick someone for your holiday who is not associated with the death of hundreds of thousands to preserve slavery? “
George Washington? Thomas Jefferson? James Madison? James Monroe?

Southern identity is partly about celebrating the Anglo-Celtic culture, which is the core culture that existed in America at the time of the founding of America in 1776. Virginia = Wessex
Southern backcountry = northern Ireland, northern England, Scottish highlands
Yankees = East Anglia
Delaware and Philadelphia area = England's north midlands

“As a son of the south I have to ask WTF????? While I appreciate the sentiments who really cares what Yankees think of us? I sure don’t. ...”
Indeed. We are who we are and what we are. The critics fall into the category of “the sum of zeros”.
BTW, I am not going to knock ‘Yankees’ per se, as a very great many of them are splendid people, but I cheerfully and utterly reject their culture, which itself is no monolith.

Everybody who is born in America is a native American.
English native < French natif < Latin nativus = English born < Latin nasci (passive voice) to be born

> If you and your parents were born here, that makes you a native American. Maybe they meant aboriginal Americans?
When I went to High School in the late 50s-early 60s. We were taught that if you were born here you were native American and if you were an indian you were aboriginal American.

I like your sentiment. Can we stop stereotyping and denigrating "norhterners" and "Yankees" too?
Eliminating the "hyphenated" Americans is something we can all agree upon; however, stopping the denigration and stereotyping of "Yankees" is just asking too much! /sarc

Now that the black man has been helped out by those northern pilgrims how are things going?

Or as I commonly say...an average AMERICAN!!!
I like all of your post and agree with your summation; EXCEPT...no one in Texas should be rooting for the Yankees! That is just disgraceful!

Since you're doing your best to be open minded, how about this? As a country mouse you reject the culture of city mouse. Isn't that more appropriate than to say there's a "yankee" culture you reject? Heck, have you visited down town Atlanta lately. I'd hardly call that Southern or Northern culture and I'd expect you'd be more at home in some of the very rural parts of the North than some of the urban areas of today's South. I've lived in both the North and the South... give me that country living any day.
