I take it we are talking VFR only, or IFR(I Follow Roads)

If it crashes do you want to land on asphalt and get hit by a truck, or do you want to fall in trees, grass, or a pool?

And just what if several hundred thousand of your fellow frustrated commuters strap on their own jet packs and sky up at the same time, headed for the same downtown destination? Multiple midair carnage on a horrific scale! Actually with some sort of computer-managed flight control systems, combined with GPS guidance... it might make flying cars and personal jetpaks actually workable and safe (from a traffic point of view, anyway).
But then again... when I see what the seagulls do to my newly-washed car... it makes me glad that people can't fly.

Yah... but “ducted-fan-pack” just doesn’t sound right. :-)

I've been waiting since that afternoon in '62 in Tomorrowland. I have been waiting since that Astrodome flight in 1965, at a Colts 45 game.

“...you simply throw on your jetpack, terrify a few birds, and make it to work in record time.”
.
Absolutely terrific suicide bomber tool. No protection against it. The perfect jihadpack.
