I agree with you. The ONLY reason the MSM has Conservatives on their shows is to play gotcha and then play the video clips and sound bites endlessly.
People in Delaware do not care about Bill Maher's witchcraft nonsense or about IRS disputes or foreclosure notices. Plenty of Delawareans did crazy stuff in high school, plenty of Delawareans have received foreclosure notices and Delawareans, like all other Americans, hate the IRS.
The issue is demographics. As you pointed out, 47% of Delawareans are registered Democrats, 29% are registered Republicans and 23% are independents.
In 2008 62% of DE voted for Obama, 37% voted for McCain, 57% voted for Castle as Congressman and 34% voted for O'Donnell for Senator.
This implies that Obama got 65% of the independents and McCain got 35%. It also implies that Castle got 78% of the independents and O'Donnell got 22% of them.
Assuming Democrat turnout is depressed by 10% this election, that GOP turnout is increased by 10% and independent turnout is also up 10%, O'Donnell will need for independents to break her way by 70/30.
Her current polling numbers imply that she has the GOP all locked up and about 30% of the independents.
She needs to pick up 30,000 independent voters that are now leaning toward Coons.
Almost all of them will be found in rural New Castle, where Coons was County Executive. He did a pretty terrible job, and the voters can easily be reminded of that.
90% of those voters are located in a 15 mile radius between Newark and Wilmington.
It will be extremely difficult to overcome the deficit, but this is a race tailor-made for retail politics. There are 40 towns in New Castle and she lives in one of them, Hockessin.
She could visit every town in New Castle twice and be home by evening during the remainder of this campaign. She has to win over 750 voters a day.
Agree. The people of Deleware will have the final say on November 2nd. The rest of us are observers (and fund raisers). Ms O'Donnell should attend every church social, picnic, town square, rubber chicken dinner she can attend. She will be representing Delaware.
BTW, her website has $2,230,140.12 raised since the primary. Excellent!
I sent in my donation. FR must keep this up:
