Saw on Fox this AM that Coons is meeting with Old Joe today and no one else is invited. Is this the “step down for medical reasons” moment to be replaced by Castle? by his kid? They would need the DE Supreme Court in their back pocket to pull such a stunt.

Rove is dead set against O'Donnell getting this seat.
The speculation was that he has a deal where he is to help get Joe's kid elected to this office in two years.
That's why they wanted Castle in the contest because they think Coons can beat him, but not O'Donnell.
Plus they both would be much easier to defeat next cycle than O'Donnell.
They would settle for Coons because he would probably gladly step aside for the "golden boy" to step into the seat.
Beau Biden isn't seen as a contender this cycle because of his relative inexperience in politics, being now the Attorney General of Delaware
If O'Donnell gets in Rove knows there is no way she will be beat in two years, so his "boy"...really Biden's boy (son) wouldn't get in.
Politics is incestuous and the turd blossom is having the adjective magnificent removed from the phrase "Rove, you magnificent bastard you!"

There seems to be some confusion here that may go further to explain “Benedict” Rove’s actions. Biden was re-elected in 2008; had 0bambi lost, Biden would not have come up for re-election until 2014. So, this election is for FOUR unexpired years of that term.
In which case, Christine O’Donnell may well be a lot harder to beat. That is, unless daddy convinces Carper that he should resign in 2012. For say, a seat on the Supreme Court?

That’s the way it would have been in a NORMAL state. This is DE we are talking about. The governor appointed the walking dead man, Edward Kaufman, Biden’s former cheif of staff as placeholder for young Biden.
I had the misfortune of working at DuPont next door to Kaufman and attending the same church BUILDING back in the ‘70’s. Kaufman’s idea of a rational discussion was “Shut up and do it my way”. We went to the same church BUILDING, but his religion was strictly Looney Tunes. If there was a Catholic position, he took the opposing view.
And in typical LIB fashion, he would scream, hold his breath, scream again until he got his way.
