Also the taxes - income, sales and real estate - going thru the roof under the Dems.

There’s that and there’s also tons of foreign/tourist dollars pouring into the city which creates a surplus of dollars that translates into higher prices just as it does in Disney land for example. I have to wonder if what organized crime doesn’t have a hand in it too by taking a cut of everything.

Housing in NYC should be real cheap - since they have rent control.....

Even Rush Limbaugh pulled out of NY State rather than be hit for more taxes.

I remember the pennies being inside the cellophane wrapping on the package.

With what it costs to live in New York City, $100K is actually a fairly pedestrian salary. A lot of people who have blue-collar jobs make at or near that in the city.

What is shocking is that we have union transit drivers making around this amount in places like Pittsburgh where the cost of living is less than half. Playing fast and loose with the overtime rules and such.

The pack came out of the machine with two pennies scotch-taped to it

I know you are not making it up.

I once had the job of inserting three pennies, with the aid of a machine, under the cellophane of a pack of cigarettes. The reason this was necessary is the cost of a pack of cigarettes went from twenty cents to twenty-two cents and the cigarette vending machines could only accept quarters. This job didn't last long because the cost per pack quickly went to a quarter.
