Breathtaking!
I remember--back in the 20th century--trying to comprehend a Roman public that would tolerate dictators like Caligula, Tiberius, Nero, and Commodus--wondering how Caligula could make his horse a Senator--how he could command the wives and daughters of Senators (or anybody else, for that matter) to work as prostitutes in the Roman Senate.
I now understand.
My father's brother was a brilliant man. When he died he left a fortune to his heirs. He never compromised his honor, honesty, or integrity, yet he built a financial network that provided a good income for many people.
He told me--back in the 1950's or '60's--that the U.S. could one day go the way of the Roman Republic.
(He was also a staunch Republican back when the rest of the family was staunchly Democrat. My parents adored Franklin Roosevelt. If they were alive today they would be horrified and profoundly remorseful!)
I told him that I could see that it could happen, but I could not see how it could happen. I do now.
It was about that time that I read Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. I was fascinated.
I knew that the Decline and Fall of the United States was theoretically possible, but, for the life of me, I couldn't imagine how it could really happen--at least within the forseeable future.
I understand all too well now.
The decline and its rate--as you say--have been breathtaking.

I say the pains they take to downplay the race crime is *almost* comical but in reality it is infuriating and tragic. What the media do is almost criminal. Sadly the double standards have existed for decades and aren’t going to change any time soon.
So you are saying then that groups of people based on their skin color; are more likely to be criminals because of that skin color or race?
Sorry, try again. Conservatives reject that arguement. We expect everyone to rise up and achieve and be civilized. We don’t let them have the excuse of skin color or race as an excuse to behave badly.
Everyone should pull their weight and not be a parasite.
What's even more breathtaking, is that the majority doesn't see it, or care.
Its been like that for several decades at the Michigan State Fair.......use to go there as a kid, won’t go there as an adult now......

You may at the wrong site. As I said before; conservatives don't hold that viewpoint. Only people such as Al Sharpton and his friends hold those viewpoints. And the white supremacist trash who are very similar to Sharpton in many ways.
Conservatives believe everyone should pull their own weight, no excuses.
We are tired of pulling the wagon while everyone else sits on it and makes excuses why they can't also help pull.
I don’t want to give up my conservative black friends and I’m sure they don’t want to have to choose to live with the liberal blacks. It’s more about ideology than color.
I’m with you. There are some GREAT blacks. We don’t want to doom them to live in a segregated society, unless they want.
