got all the way back with the WWE when Bob Backlund...

Backlund, at least up until a few years ago, lives in Glastonbury and has dabbled in politics himself. His entire platform was literacy. I'm not even sure which party he aligned himself with, but he was always a very nice, approachable, somewhat goofy guy to run into at a local watering hole or bookstore.

Well, Glassman is out of it... she lost to the woman with the horrible voice, Nancy Wyman. We live right next to Simsbury, where Mary Glassman is mayor. She is VERY popular there...

Call me crazy, but as far as lefty leftists go, I don't hate Glassman. I actually agree with a lot of her ideas. From what I gather (I live in a neighboring town as well), she has actually - gasp - SAVED Simsbury a few bucks here and there with some of her incredibly simple ideas like sharing paving contracts with Avon. I LIKE some regionalization ideas (Do we really need 130 911 centers in the state? 150 plowing contracts?) and done right, public transportation that funds itself isn't a bad idea.

But she'll never win a general election, b/c she is truly a leftist. But I'm not afraid to say she seems like a nice woman - and she hitched her wagon to that dumbass Ned Lamont and got crushed y'day.

That said, I HATE Nancy Wyman for a million reasons. She's just been awful up in Mansfield and seems to hate the University for some reason. to me, that's the worst winner y'day.

Novak's defeat also reveals the weakness of the Diustrict 2 Tea Party, that failed to endorse her early on. People would have identified with her better if she had been strongly supported by the Tea Party, not just some of it's more active members.

While I very much appreciate you and your group's efforts (and I plan to order more bumper stickers soon!), I'm not overly fond of Tea Party groups endorsing candidates... it can cause "members" of these groups to become divided, thus the group becomes weaker. To me the Tea Party movement is a more grassroots, independent one, more focused on returning to the principles of the Constitution and ousting corrupt-o-crats (admittedly mostly Democrats) like Chris Dodd and (hopefully) Dick Blumenthal.

Thanks for educating me about Mary Glassman. I have to say I've been mystified for years why so many smart people in Simsbury keep electing someone I've considered a far lefty. It's good that she's doing some commonsense things for her town.

I admit I know very little about Nancy Wyman and Dannel Malloy (except Nancy has that truly AWFUL voice). I really hope they've got some skeletons in their closets that will come out just before election day. I won't get my hopes up, though, as the 'RAT voters in CT always seem to look the other way when it comes to their 'RAT candidates.

What do you think of Foley/Boughton vs Malloy/Wyman? I keep thinking of those devastating anti-Foley ads by Fedele. Foley was arrested twice, and there's "chatter" that he tried to run his wife (with his son in her car) off the road years ago. I can't confirm that, but the rumor mill is churning...

Yikes.. anyone have any inside knowledge about this?

It's true. She registered as a Republican just before she entered the race. She voted for Courtney in 2008.

How do you think Peckinpaugh will do vs. Courtney?

Badly.

Is Janet anything close to a conservative??

Not by a country mile.

Huh?? What exactly is going on here? Is Peckinpaugh actually running for this office, or does she plan to purposely campaign badly so Courtney is a shoo-in?

And I notice that her campaign website is badly out of date. Something smells here...

A pretty damning (opinion piece) article on Peckinpaugh, published in the New London Day, May 21, 2010:

Janet Peckinpaugh is no Linda McMahon

Malloy will win .

The anti-incumbent fervor knows no party distinction.

Ed M. doesn't care!

He promoted the Paugh just to thwart the Tea Party.

The GOP establishment fears for it's survival from the tea party.

This brainless action has sealed it's fate. The GOP lost it's credibility in 2010.
