VDH is right. There is huge racism in Mexico and Latin America. Top tier is European. Next mestizos, mixed European and Mexican/ native; at the bottom are the Indians and blacks.

"It's difficult for me," said Carmen Arevalo, 30, who arrived in the United States 12 years ago from El Salvador and doesn't speak English.

Laziness. Then she goes on to say:

"Sometimes I feel uncomfortable, because sometimes I don't know what they will be saying to the children."

Obviously not uncomfortable enough to learn the language during the twelve years she's been here.

A lot of the illegals we get DON’T EVEN SPEAK SPANISH. They speak Indian dialects. The Spanish racist ruling class is pushing their Indians and semi-Indians into the USA. This is an Indian invasion. Mexico always treated their Indians like crap. No billion dollar casinos for them. Mexico’s rulers are laughing themselves silly as they send their unresolved “Indian problems” into the USA

Guatemala and El Salvador are the same. They send their Indians and semi-Indians to America. Plus the ones from Guatemala are just about all Mayan Indians. Not semi-Indians, also known as Mestizos.

This is the core of the La Raza/reconquista brigades in the USA, the ones with the signs claiming they are the natives...well they are the natives of Mexico or what ever hellhole south of the border but not here.

You make a good point.. it actually makes me angrier to think these are legal Americans who want their kids catered to in Spanish.

I hate hearing that. Your church really should look into Roberta Pournelle’s reading program. It has been in use over 2 decades. Neither the web site nor the program are flashy, but the program is a proven winner.

They don’t emphasize it, but this is pure phonics instruction. I think the reason they don’t is because they need to stay under the radar of some school districts that only push whole language.

REFERENCE At a summit held last May, the Guatemalan AG for Human Rights said that 10% of Guatemala’s population has relocated to the U S. About 60% currently in the US do not possess legal immigration documents.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

How many in the above statistic are men between the ages of 16 to 49. ( By the way, I have read similar stats for Mexico.)

Rarely, discussed are the consequences for the countries from where these illegals migrate. Whole villages are devoid of men. Women and their families are abandoned permanently.

Illegal immigration not only has consequences for the U.S. but it is also a massive drain of creativity from their home countries.

Teachers are such hypocrites. When the child succeeds at school, thank a teacher. When a child fails at school, it's the parents fault for not being more involved.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If you know an academically successful child, that child has been either afterschooled or homeschooled.

The only thing the school does is send home the curriculum for the parents and child to follow.

Most of the La Raza types have some European blood so maybe they hate their Conquistador half. You are correct that Mexican Indians have nothing to do with US history. They are Mexican for Pete’s sake!

Having taught in a school with lots of immigrants (not sure if they were legal or not, we could not ask) I don’t think the whole picture is a language issue. I had plenty of students who spoke and understood English and they still didn’t do well. It could be that their parents can’t help them because they are uneducated (my guess with many poor from south of the border) or it could be cultural (is education valued?) or because it’s simply not *cool* to do well in school (if you haven’t had a child tell you they didn’t want the other kids to think they were smart, you’re lucky, it’s one of the saddest things a teacher can hear).

We are giving the school systems an impossible task and then are surprised when they are unsuccessful.

Cry me a Rio Grande. Some of these Hispanics understand English quite well and are smart enough to keep it to themselves - any number of advantages in playing dumb.

On the news here in Houston the other day a family was being interviewed after their 18 year old son was shot and killed. Two sisters, late teens or early twenties were talking. You could tell from their pronunciation they were born and raised in the U.S. - then Mom spoke. She still didn’t speak a word of English and has probably been here for 20 years. They don’t even try to assimilate anymore

How did those immigrants of the early 20th century manage without ESL courses? Oh that’s right THEY WANTED TO BECOME AMERICANS!!! They never expected the country to accommodate their language, they learned English and were glad for the opportunities offered here.
