Thanks for re-writing, but it still doesn't make sense in the context of the "article". According to the screed it is the city manager who makes that much. There is no indication other than that one mangled sentence to suggest that the mayor also does.

That sort of thing matters, FRiend. It matters a lot. Atrocious writing is a sure-fire way to not be taken seriously.
They don't like to teach good grammar anymore. Kids in public school are lucky if they are taught the eight parts of speech. I middle school, grammar has been removed in public schools. I'm not kidding. Educrats believe that grammar rules impede their "creativity". So they have them reading all kinds of propaganda for subject matter. When high school rolls around they're supposed to be writing experts and go wild writing essays. If they go to college at least 30% of them require remedial writing, math and a few other subjects.
It will take enormous resolve for journalists to write as well as William Buckley. His wit and vocabulary are unmatched. I may not have agreed with some of his Libertarian views, but his writing was excellent. So, since they don't focus on good grammar, which helps with good writing, we have to settle for what we can get.

There is also nothing stopping other reporters from also discovering the same event and writing about it. It's not as though other reporters depend on her for news. Few will write about it and it isn't because she didn't do a good job writing it. It is the subject matter that they want to ignore.
