Could have been an isolated incident, a “rogue” North Korean soldier. More likely Beloved Leader was trying to send a message, but his method of delivery is ill chosen (no pun intended) and his message muddled. The Chinese must rue the day they got involved with this madman. If they had any sense, they’d try to turn South Korea into their satellite by holding out an olive branch and let the North dissovle into chaos and famine, to be taken over by the South.

The world will never know the true state of relations between DPRK and China. Both are extremely secretive and conduct their diplomacy behind closed doors. There are no Daniel Ellsbergs, no Joseph Wilsons or Valerie Plames, no “whistleblowers” to embarrass the regimes, because such people are simply shot.

Scuffles along the border are not uncommon. Lately, China is tightening the screws on cross-border smuggling of all kinds. Border guards and soldiers on N. Korean side are usually accomplices to this operation. When they are caught by Chinese while smuggling, N. Koreans won't go quietly. Shootings can occur. Lately, this kind of episodes are getting more frequent.

What they do to S. Korea and America, they also do to China on a lesser scale. However, it seems to be getting worse.

I think the North Koreans would love to test their nukes on American facilities in Japan, or Guam or even try to hit Alaska or the west coast. I don't think they want to nuke South Korea though because the Dear Leader thinks South Korea and all of its people and property belong to him. The Norks plan to loot the South of everything.

The latest words out of N. Korea is that Chia Head is not in day-to-day control. He is said to be in real bad heath.

My thought has been that the military pretty much has run the show since Kim Il-Sung’s passing, and that Chia is mainly a figurehead.

I haven't heard about it from any local S. Korean media. Not even a rumor. I first heard it from here not long ago.

Maybe that has something to do with both Gates and Hitlery showing up with top military brasses(USFK, Pacific Command, and somebody from JCS, if I remember correctly) in Seoul.

I think Chia Head was firmly in charge, until stroke got him. Of course, under his watch, N. Korean military’s clout increase dramatically, operating as a defacto governing body. However, it may be a stretch to say that he was a figurehead. One thing the Chia Head is good at is to hold onto his absolute power.

Test their nukes? I am not convinced they even have any workable nuclear warheads. Its an elaborate hoax to
elicit bribes and goodies from foolish Westerners.
