I don't have an opinion either way, if it should be legal or illegal. I just can not imagine California of all States not having there hands all over the regulations. I think it may become a case of be careful what you wish for!

For gosh sakes, they can't even sell bread in the State without the health Nazi's being all over the place, if they do it with that what kind of "health" or "cleanliness" regulations will they have in place for pot? I just cannot see (pot tourism, or not) it being economically smart to grow pot legally.

It will be an interesting experiment to say the least. What kind of liabilities will be in place the first time someone overdoses, or gets sick and dies (regardless of the cause) and it is found out that the patient smoked pot, that they bought legally, at a State "registered" outlet.

CA has had a thriving medical marijuana program since 1996. All of your concerns - overregulation, liability, profitability - should have applied to it as well. AFAIK, none has presented an obstacle.

It's nice of you to be looking out for their interests, but I think you can set aside your worries for the pot growers.

I think that you may very well be right about laws that California might pass after Prop 19 passes if Prop 19 passes.

We really don’t know, but we figure that California will pass these laws because we figure that we know California and that’s just what California does. And I think that’s not a bad guess.

But Prop 19 itself is actually a really good law. It lets the localities make those decisions. And we, as conservatives prefer that states make decisions instead of federal, and local instead of states. And that’s the way it works here. The state government, politicians, what have you, seem to be more against Prop 19 than the average citizen.

A couple of the main things that Prop 19 does is say

1) every Californian can grow 25 sq ft of pot. Not sell it, but grow it. There doesn’t really need to be any extra regs surrounding that. It’s just not a crime to do that. There are no taxes surrounding that, or cleanliness regulations. It’s just not a crime.

2) when you’re talking about selling pot, that’s when the localities - cities, counties - get involved. Prop 19 pretty much says that all the rules for selling will be set by the localities. There might or might not be a whole bunch of regulations, and taxes, at the local level. It will depend on where in California you live. And, again, that’s only for the sale of pot. Not the growing of pot, which does not fall under regulation.

It appears that pot would be regulated very similar to alcohol under prop 19. What happens when someone gets alcohol poisoning currently? I don’t know, but it works itself out somehow. Some say that theres no such thing as a marijuana overdose. I have no idea about that, but it does appear that marijuana overdoses are uncommon.
