I’m looking forward to once again being able to hear the singing and chanting during soccer matches, without the vuvuzelas.
It will also be fun to watch Real Madrid and FC Barcelona go at it this year, especially now with Mourinho coaching Real Madrid.

Italian octopus. His trainer says she caught him off Elba, making Paul, “Paolo”... a Tuscan octopus. In Italy this was the only bright spot in the whole mundial. The Italian team (champions of 2006) gave their worst performance in history. Capelli, the English team coach got trounced by the Germans, Rosetti the ref got sent home in disgrace for missing an off-sides bigger than Liechtenstein and on and on (Muslera who plays goalie for Rome’s Lazio team deserved to be tarred and feathered and the Brazilian player who was the culprit for their loss against Holland plays for Juventus. Everything bad for Italy this year... but then the news came in that Paul the Octopus is really “il Polipo Paolo” and that’s all it took to make the country happy again: we have a prognosticating cepholopod (this is important in the grand scheme of things).
Had it not been the World Cup Final, I think it would have been a straight red card. Given the importance of the match and the fact that it was clearly unintentional, I think it was the correct decision.

Had it been a red card, you would have had no argument from me. All I am saying that given the importance of the match, the fact that it happened very early on, and that it wasn’t intentional, one can make a very good argument that the decision was proper, even if it was not in agreement with the letter of the rule.
I’d bet almost anything that the FIFA board was not displeased with the decision. They selected Howard Webb because he was easily the best referee from a country not involved in the semi-finals. I saw every match he officiated and of the matches I saw, he and his crew were easily the most competent.

Soccer has to be one of the most boring low scoring sport there is! How can anyone say there is excitment in this game?
I agree. As much as they hyped the great "African culture" throughout the games, the so-called African culture of vuvuzelas ruined the tournament, in my opinion.
Along with you, I enjoy the cheering and singing during a game and was looking forward to the fans from different countries bringing their own cheers and songs to the matches.
You couldn't hear the oohs and aahhs after close calls, nor could you hear the boos for bad calls and the roar of the crowd during a breakaway.
May they never play in Africa again.
I can understand being disappointed at losing in the ´WC final but there was just too much bad sportsman like conduct.
The whole thing was ugly to watch from practically the first ball possession when a Dutch player came running up from behind and kicked the Spanish player in the back of the knee.
Did you happen to notice how few of the Spanish players sang during the playing of the Spanish National Anthem before the game?
I believe most of their players are Catalan, and they want at least more autonomy, if not full independence from Spain.
