I do wish we could have had a bit more technical detail.
I’m not about to assume there was any danger until I know more.
That is actually handy to have a couple of those in the garage. You just never know when you are going to need one.
Doesn’t “live” mean its dangerous?
I hear ya. I am looking for local reports with more info and will post as it pops up.
“Live” presumably means that these boombooms, whether hand grenades or 500lb aerial bombs still had their explosive filling and viable fuzes. Not knowing any more than that, they may or may not have been “armed”.
Thank you for the clarification. My father has an old hand grenade, but he worked in ammunition and knew enough to bring an empty one home.
Sounds like someone found Grandpa’s WWII stash.
Without a detonator they are not live. They are potentially dangerous as you could cook them off in a fire. If the detonator is discharged and screwed back in, and the explosive removed, they are as safe as a bath towel.
My comment was made because I had some idiot call bomb disposal to remove a practice grenade that I had inadvertently left when I moved. The detonator was real but had been discharged,(I know cuz I did it) and there was a obvious hole in the bottom where the explosives had been removed, but the bomb squad used a chemical swab to test it for residue and of course it did bot pass that so they called it a live grenade and I was on the receiving end of a ton of federal bullcrap.
Ten grand and two years later they gave it up. So no! Live is not necessarily live when it comes to ordinance.
After ‘Nam, came to believe that a personal case of hand grenades might come in pretty handy come day. I wish I had a few.
a box of dynamite is a lot easier to explain, assuming you have some logical on-the-farm or construction use for it.
Video says they were 81mm rounds. One HE and one luminary.
We used to use them for a center piece for our table. Sort of like you would use a vase of flowers....LOL
When I checked out, they even took my US Army ball point pen. But in 69, accountability was not very strict.
