First Lakers coach Phil Jackson came out in support of Arizona last month, and now future Hall of Fame Cardinal Manager Tony LaRussa, one of the only managers ever to win a World Series in both leagues, comes out in strong support of Arizona's immigration law SB1070. With astroturf protests against the Diamondbacks at his stadium today, demanding to move the All-Star game out of AZ, La Russa spoke out: "I'm actually supportive of what AZ's doing. If the National government doesn't fix your problem, you've got to take care of it yourself. It's just the American Way." AMEN to that! (Tony also deftly handles a loaded question by the snarky reporter trying to get him to bash the Tea Party--who were at the Cardinals game today to support the Diamondbacks and 1070.)
Thanks montag813.

No, you’re not mistaken. The 2010 All-Star Game is in Anaheim; it’s the 2011 All-Star Game that the moonbats want MLB not to hold in Phoenix.

Although I agree with LaRussa on the Arizona law in question, I don't think that LaRussa is a good guy. He was charged with drunken driving a couple of years ago, and I believe was convicted. Furthermore, last year, a pitcher on his team smashed up his car one night in an accident caused by alcohol. The very next day, he let this guy pitch as if nothing had happened. A couple of days later, the pitcher was drinking and driving again and was killed. This showed a lack of concern and a lack of leadership on LaRussa's part.
BTW, the media reports were remiss to note that LaRussa himself is Hispanic; his opinion on immigration doesn't fit the template.

Amen to Tony. He is a true American Patroit.

Now if you will get rid of McGuire as a hitting coach you are back in my good graces.

I thought he was Italian. Anyway, just because he got a DUI doesn’t mean he’s an evil person. It’s a foolish thing to do and there should be strong penalties for it, but I’m willing to forgive him for that indiscretion.
To: montag813
If I’m not mistaken, isn’t Tony also a lawyer?
To: justiceseeker93
Are you sure that LaRussa is Hispanic? I know that fellow Tampa native Lou Piniella is part Hispanic, but not LaRussa.

I agree with him, but I wish the media would not drag sports teams and figures into political conflicts. Every issue will become a reason for some group or other to boycott a team, a city, or a state. Can’t there be just one thing free of politics?
To: AuH2ORepublican
LaRussa is part Spanish; part Italian. Pinella is 100% Spanish. They played together in Little League and PONY League. In high school, Tony played for Jefferson and Lou played for Jesuit.
Nice to see that Tony hasn’t forgotten his Tampa roots. Tampa has a sizeable Spanish and Italian population, all came here the old fashioned way, legally.
