A better title would be: “Gulf held hostage by Cap’n Tax”

Can’t obama just have one of his czar’s issue some kind of ‘waiver’ ?
It’s not like there is no precedent from the president. A waiver is what started this whole thing.

I am very grateful to Mr. Nobu Su
Though this is downright sinful...
“But a number of hurdles stand in his way. TMT officials said the company does not yet have government approval to assist in the cleanup or a contract with BP to perform the work . . .”

My first question was, "how does it 'skim' the oil".
The answer

Why does it need “permission”...??
Can’t it just make a slow drive in the Gulf? Isn’t it considered international waters?

"After initially declining, U.S. Government officials have decided to accept an offer from the Dutch government to send four large oil skimmers to the site of the BP Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico... One ton of oil is equal to approximately 7.3 barrels, so 5,000 tons a day is about 36,500 barrels per day.
Collectively, the four skimmers can take up to 146,000 barrels per day." -
article
If the Dutch skimmers were used early, even at the current leak estimate of 60,000 barrels/day, no oil would have reached the shore, and it would be totally unnecessary to use dispersants.
This Taiwanese super skimmer is 500,000 barrels/day.

This could ruin everything. Obama has been praying for a hurricane to make a huge mess so that they can pass Cap and Tax. If this giant skimmer starts sucking up all of the oil there might not be enough damage to keep people enraged.

We don’t need it. 0baMao is going to suck the oil out of the gulf himself and then swim down and plug the well. Some day.

It gives new meaning to manufactured crisis.
If I were the owner, I'd be there in international waters sucking up as much oil as possible. 60000 barrels/day x $80/barrel = $4.8 million per day

Yep, put that puppy to work and have a television crew on board. When the Feds come to stop it stream it live on national TV.

Some La. residents have boats and equipment...think they wanted just to go out on their own to try to do something, and they were hindered. Seems there was an article or clip about it.
How can BP control the entire Gulf? That should not be. I hope the La. residents just go out in the waters anyway.

We need all the skimmers we can get!!!
I like the big one best,,,
At this stage of the game it just seems hopeless to me,,,
If that storm don't take a hard left turn the oil from that
blowout will cover every part of the coast from Galveston
to Key West with crude,,,
High surf will overwash all the booms,,,
They're still skroooin’ around with tryin’ to replace the
shelter islands that would help keep the crude out of the
marshes in Louisiana...

Oh I’m sure they get hindered. OSHA, FEMA, etc. doesn’t want the public getting in the way. And besides, there’s that $100 million foundation for the benefit of organized labor included in the shakedown package. Obama’s civilian corps will be busy this summer sitting on stinking beaches in nice federal T-shirts, while the people who know this water like the back of their hands will be told to get lost.

Wonder how far up the Mississippi River the oil would travel from a hurricane push?
