My mistake, the original online story has been corrected...it now refers to the "sourse."

J-school grads are idiots.

The custody case is set for trial next month. All they did was meet with their lawyers and set up a parenting plan rather than go through a lengthy trial. Bristol has issued a statement to this effect. They have agreed to “co-parent” their child; they did not get back together as a couple.

You won't succeed at something if you don't try in the first place. The reason so many people get divorced is that there is no stigma anymore to divorcing, just as there is almost no stigma anymore to having a child out-of-wedlock. Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston will eventually each get married...probably to people very much like each of them. Why shouldn't they marry each other instead, commit themselves to being good parents to their child, and really try to make it work?

I agree with you that they should have got married immediately, which is what Sarah Palin wanted. However, I think it was Levi Johnson who dragged his feet on that and Bristol, afraid she'd lose him, backed him up. I believe Bristol would have been happy to get married, but now that there's no real stigma to having a baby out-of-wedlock — or to abortion, for that matter — young women have much less leverage than they used to and they settle for what they can get. That is why the teenage pregnancy rate often doesn't go down when teenagers are pelted with contraceptives. The girls subconsciously — or consciously, sometimes — want to get pregnant as a way to hold on to their boyfriends. When they do get pregnant and the guy won't marry them, they parrot the guys’ “we shouldn't rush into anything” line.

I basically agree with you — that giving contrceptives was the opposite of a solution —
but int he case of Bristol, she seems to be ...stupid .. and not be on board with the family’s mission. Her bahavior had a huge negative impact onher mother’s vp campaign. And it seems like she still doesn’t get it.
