There is a debate at the oil Drum as to how much water is in the measurement....
To: TigersEye
Those estimates are from the USGS, and BP’s own experts.... as well as some outside experts. That baby must be under a lot of pressure.

On April 28, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimated that the leak was likely 5,000 barrels Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant.

I'll bet it is very difficult to make an estimate of the flow of an oil and gas mixture flowing from a broken well head a mile under water.
As for PBS I would expect them to have Big Bird making their Gulf Oil Tragedy reports with blackened feathers while other muppets flop around and cry in pain in the background holding up signs saying "your parents SUV did this!"

I don’t have any doubts that it is. The Ixtoc 1 well took over nine months to stop and it was in 150 ft. of water. It was complicated by months of fire and the rig collapsing on top of the well head though.

One thing, people keep saying that the oil companies are “forced out into deepwater by regulations” -That’s BS... the oil companies are drilling out in deepwater, because there is a HUGE reserve of oil out there! (obviously) ;^)

Sure they are. Off the coast of Brazil Petrobras is drilling in 8,000 ft. of water compared to 5,000 here. The world runs on oil.

I am containing an additional 20,000 barrels using my psychokinetic powers.
Prove me wrong, or hold a parade for me.
BTW boys and girls, this leak is doom.
Real doom.
Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Yeah, right. I believe/trust Admiral Allen about as much as I believe/trust the CEO of BP. Which is zero.

If Hayward or Allen said the sun rises in the west, some in here would immediately believe it.

wonder what THEIR emergency plan is for 8,000 feet.
They probably don’t even have a BOP.

amazing 15,000 barrels a day from a well that was supposedly only spewing out 5,000 barrels a day from previous BP claims.
Yet the live camera still shows an abundance of oil spewing out.
I guess BP must be mixing in a lot of seawater to fudge there numbers.
