In New Hampshire, a private citizen with a CCP would have taken the trash out earlier.

"Guns are NOT illegal in Britain" Mhmmm. That must be why the assailant was shot dead by the dozens of people who were in lawful possession of concealed handguns, right? Or, did the old boy just take his own life?
Spare me your British sanctimony. This incident, just like the similar incidents in America, was only "successful" because it transpired in a "gun free zone".
About a year ago, a man tried to shoot up a Jewish museum in DC. What stopped him? An armed security guard. If you shooter had been confronted by someone who was armed themselves, perhaps no one would have died, to say nothing of the 12 who sadly have.

Certainly that is a possibility. I consider that to be a stupid knee-jerk reaction and a mistake, but I don’t feel able to argue with my compatriots just at the moment...

Probably, but the one I most remember was of a woman (crazy) who took her son out to shoot and then murdered him before turning the gun on herself.

You’re a loon. You might be the only person in the world who somehow sees a connection between a rampage killing spree in England and Paul McCartney and George Harrison. Paul McCartney should explain this? Get well soon...

This thread is a classic example of the dangers of jumping to conclusions absent any facts. Prejudice (a judgment or opinion held in disregard of facts that contradict it; unreasonable bias) is run rampant.
Various posters have attributed this tragedy to Muslims, gun control, homosexuality, immigrants, Thailand, etc. Perhaps Obama had some hand in this (at least McCain?). Get a grip folks and at least read the article first.

I hope you never have to put that theory into practice, but I would think that would be unlikely.

Can’t happen. Only the police and military have guns over there. The sheep gave theirs up years ago.

Sad, plus it dumps all the clean-up on the range.

And YOU can spare me your Yankee arrogance. This incident was NOT "successful" because it transpired in a gun free zone, as you would know if you'd bothered to read the artile instead of jumping on the "right to bear arms" bandwagon. It was "successful" because it was unexpected. Whitehaven is a small town in a very rural county which does not see much violence. The guy is driving down small rural roads taking shots at random at passersby. How is a concealed handgun going to stop something like that? When you walk along the street do you expect a middle-aged man in a taxi to suddenly pull up and shoot you, for no readily apparent reason? Do you walk around with your hand on your "concealed weapon" just in case? Or are you Billy the Kid and going to "beat him to the draw"?
Armed citizens can be effective against terrorists, and people intent on criminal acts, but not much works on crazies.

I know, music is so powerful, that just listening to it will overcome everything you’ve been taught and believe in. It’s pure evil.

Why let facts get in the way of a good chance to "spread the word"?
As of the last survey in 2009, there were over 1.3 million legally held shotguns (the probable weapon used here) in the UK.

No no no....music is powerful ok, but it is neutral. Only people (composers) are evil (or good - depending on the music, it can be a force for good or ill).

And that doesn’t include the rifles owned presumably....

Well, fine for you, but just remember, “when seconds count, the police are only minutes away”!
