If this idiotic administration hadn't based their entire political strategy on blaming Bush/Cheney they could have reached out for help from a couple of "Oil Men" who have actually had to deal with some genuine adversity.

I don't think there is a more qualified person to help manage this catastrophe than Cheney. And if Obama wasn't so enamored of his own brilliance, he would call the former Vice President, beg his forgiveness for all the Democratic Party political pettiness, and ask him to become the Gulf oil spill czar.

I have little doubt that Cheney would, out of a sense of loyalty to his country, accept the responsibility.

And boy would this situation benefit from Cheney's cool head and clear thinking.

I’m telling you all, at this rate, the Democrats will be making a Nixon-walk to the White House before the elections in November and telling the President he needs to step down.

He doesn’t have the foggiest notion of how to take command of anything.

umm... i’d really prefer if he just asked someone else to take the wheel.

he’d need someone that has handled disasters, dealt with a beating by the press, and has background with big oil.

ya know... i think there’s a guy in crawford texas that might fit the bill...

Gergen is the oracle of what passes for conventional wisdom in Washington DC. If he’s saying it, the DC elites are thinking it, and they will eventually pressure Obama in this direction.

Gergen may just be right for once: perhaps the Feds should exert more military-style command-and-control in their response to this crisis. The problem is that nobody in the Federal government is competent, particularly in environmental matters.

You can bet Obama and Emanuel are scheming to exploit this crisis.

“he” will not take command, because to do so is to risk blame for failure. “he” will dither.

NO! Obama needs to eat his fancy beef or whatever. BP will deal with this. The WH can get bent.

So, David Gergen thinks Peggy Noonan was premature by saying Obama’s presidency was broken, but she gave him pause.

If Obama loses Gergen/Noonan, then he’s toast on the beltway wine and cheese circuit.

I would like to hereby coin a word: gergennoonan - an elitist pundit who was once in awe of Obama but is now shocked by his incompetence...call it Awe and Shock.

The real intriguing question is whether David Brooks will take his eyes off Obama’s crease and join the soon-to-be swelling ranks of gergennoonan.

Gergen has become a pathetic joke. The only thing worse than “I’m from the govt and I’m here to help” is “I’m from the govt and I’m in charge”. NO ONE has a bigger interest in getting this fixed than BP. Let the private sector experts solve this problem rather than incompetant govt employees who probably cant even pump their own gas.

I love it! I may use it in the future.
