Cut pay, benefits and pensions of ALL government workers and retirees by 50%, except for military.

Yes, and please don’t bring up Constitutional Republic. We have long ago given that up with our voting patterns... That is the current problem and hopefully the Tea Party will change that - if not, we are doomed anyway...

We have to do better than that, Obama just grew the government by 20 percent last year. We need to cut that and then another 50 percent for a total of 70 percent to get us back to what the framers intended.
Transfer most of the services to the private sector where there will be competition.

“Ah...you’ve been reading Richard Russell?”

No, but I have been watching America from the outside, since 2004.
When I see a radical, no nothing, illegal Marxist elected POTUS, I know it is very bad, and disastrous that 40+% of voters still think he is the cat’s meow.

I am very lucky that I grew up in the best of times for the USA, and now very lucky that I am retired, and no longer have to put up with the disaster that I see.

Hello, we are a democracy

Ahhh... not true. Try "Constitutional Republic", luvvie.

However, concur with the rest of your post. Vote the wankers out, no doubt.

That’s what I am afraid of. What happens if Republicans do take the House and the Senate and can’t muster the will to respond to their supporters? What do we do then? I think we could see states seceding.

And what is the alternative?

IMO, the best alternative would be to agree to peacably divide the United States of America into two new countries.... the Progressive States of America and the Conservative States of America.

The country we have now is highly divided politically. No matter which side is in power, it is guaranteed to have roughly 40% of the population strongly opposed to their policies, 40% in favor of the policies, and 20% of the population that is just clueless. At some point, one side or the other will just decide not to put up with a country they can't support anymore and we'll have a bloody civil war.

As a better alternative, by peacably dividing the USA into two new countries, each new country will have a population where roughly 80% of the people support the policies of the government.

“bomb thrower Rand Paul”

Funny how the media throws around terms like that when they have real life examples in Ayers.

“And what is the alternative?”

Get rid of the lefties. It’s coming to a showdown, anyway; we may as well face the fact this will be an all-out fight, and one that will make that little French squabble of the early 1790s look like a picnic.

I don’t think that will be enough. We don’t have to just stop spending. We have to pay the interest on all the debt he’s piled up.

divide the United States of America into two new countries.... the Progressive States of America and the Conservative States of America.

That would be the RAT infested big city states vs the good parts of America.

Would we be able to build a wall/fence on the borders?

As highly unlikely as that may be - it could be a real fix to the current problems. Too bad that it won’t happen though = too many conflicts.

It does seem that the coasts see things a bit differently than the middle of the country. Since that happens, maybe a more reasonable approach would be division into three parts. East Coast, West Coast, and Middle America. Talk about differences...heh.

Written by a leftist, I’m sure.

They say, perhaps terrorism is overblown, so that or national defense can be cut. Or money taken out of the mouths of old people, etc. The implications that tea partiers will discover that slogans don’t solve problems (because you see, conservatives are all so stupid).

“Perhaps raising revenue is the problem, but there just aren’t enough people to tax.” Well sure, when government is doing everything to destroy their small businesses and prosperity by idiotic policies like cap and trade.

And of course, there is the HUGE governmental growth Congress and Obama has put into place in just the last year.

Now this editorial board says, They want it back? They can have it. Frankly, this board needs a good kick in the teeth. They are positively gleeful snarky the Democrats have fed a poison pill to this economy.

The country has not been this polarized since 1860-61. And I think that any reconciliation at this point is not only unlikely, but probably impossible. There are dark days ahead, but I am confident our side will prevail in the end. But it will be nasty getting there.

Yawn. Same old insulting attacks on the tea party (and anyone who dares to oppose the Democrats) coupled with more of the big MSM lie that got the country into this fiscal trainwreck in the first place. Hope they follow Newsweak soon.
