Standard questions on 2010 US Census Form:

Q #55: “How many little girls live here?

Q #56: What are their ages and names?

Q #57: What schools do they attend?

I had a Census worker come to my door yesterday, despite the fact that I sent the form back weeks ago. I expected to get into an argument over the fact that I would not give my phone number nor race of anyone in my house. She was surprisingly polite and apologetic. I think she had been taking a beating from everyone at every stop. Did not ask for anything except the number of people in my house, thanked me and moved on. I told her their real beef was with their comrades at the Postal Service and not with me.

That being said, since I live in a majority Democrat area, I have the sneaking suspicion that we’ve been counted twice.
That was just TOO easy.

Very true. When I was a child we never locked our doors, now they are locked all the time.

I don’;t answer the door when I am here alone unless it is someone I expect. It is just not safe with all of the invasions we are starting to see here. There has been at least one a month here and I do not want to be one of them.

I’d have called the police. He has no right to try to enter your home uninvited Census worker or not.

The census worker rang my bell when I was expecting my husband and a co-worker to pick me up for lunch. I opened the door because I thought that perhaps the garage door wouldn’t open for some reason. And there, a stranger stood. A nice older gentleman (although it turned out he was not older than my husband).

“Oh, oh, now Im going to get the long form,” I thought. It turned out that he thought that I’d never returned my short form. I hotly protested that I returned it April 1 — right on time. “Oh, no,” says he — “that’s late.”

“Is the government nuts?” I exclaimed. He almost doubled over with laughter and told me with mock seriousness that he was “not allowed to answer that question.”

I retorted that their form wanted to know the number of people who lived at this address and I could not answer that question until the exact day that the affidavit designated. To do otherwise would put me in jeopardy of lying because somebody here could die, or somebody else might move in between the time that I received the form and April 1.

All this time I was struggling to hold back a large Golden Retrievever who wanted to jump on him and lick him all over. I stepped out on the porch to talk to him, but the wind was howling and it was cold, so I finally let him into just the entry hall. (That was really a bad idea, but he looked pretty mild.)

Then, he asked me all the same questions all over again. He patiently listened to my objections about the race questions and my tirade about how I should have just answered HUMNAN, etc. He just smiled. Then, he let it slip that he was the one who had spotted my house the year BEFORE and marked it as one the govt. should count. It’s not like there is a big mystery about my house — it’s been here 50 years and can be seen from the road. The police dept., the fire dept., the tax collector, the ambulence drivers, and the meter readers all know where we are. I don’t know why Feds have to pay somebody to put it on a list.

Then, my husband showed up for lunch, and he had to talk the census taker’s ear off. The poor man spent about an hour determining that there were 2 white people living at this address. The Obama administration sure knows how to waste money.

I know, that’s why I refuse to speak with her and ask her to leave my property.

Nice to know the Census employees are of the same caliber of the TSA. One way or the other taxpayers float criminals and the shiftless.

No one can get to my door; it’s behind a locked gate with a yard full of ferocious sounding dogs. If I’m working outside the fence I always carry in case of snakes and rabid animals. I don’t intend to make myself easy prey.
