The Birthers believe that an ambitious man who travelled a lot as a kid has concealed the circumstances of his birth so he could be eligible for the presidency.

Not exactly, Jonah. The circumstances of his birth that we do know prove that he is not eligible for the office.

I don't think they've made their case.

And I don't think you've done your job in understanding the facts of the case, have you???

And, frankly, I'm not sure I'd want them to at this point.

I thing you have just told us why you haven't done your job -- you don't want to.

Thank you -- now shut up and go away.

For a promotion the onus of proving eligibility for my promotions fell to me

Surely. Before the fact.

Not 15 months after the fact.

The time for this birther crap has long passed.

It's silly, started by a lunatic dentist. If any of it were true, wouldn't Obama's opponents have dug it up during the primaries?

Cool, if you don’t like the term “birthers” what would you prefer the movement be called, in a single word that can be comfortably used in a sentence?

Agree with you on your discover-rage. If the arguements are bogus then let them have their day and let them be debunked.

Still I agree with the article - I don’t want a Constitutional crisis. Surely the Republic is better served by us instead devoting our resources and energies to getting good conservatives elected to Congress this November to curb the power of our President irrespective of his legitimacy?

Is that what Orly Taitz calls itself when it dresses like a man?

>No, it goes deeper than that.

Oh, I do agree that it goes deeper than that; but the fact remains that those who dismiss, out of hand, the Constitutional requirements placed on the President [or the government in general] are, by their [in]action, condoning the infringements thereof.

>Government is afraid to correct the mistake of Obama’s ineligibility because of the unrest (riots) that may ensue.

This is something that I see from the top down. It’s *NEVER* the President’s fault; he inherited all his problems from the past President. It’s *NEVER* Congress’s fault; they inherited their problems [like Social Security & National Debt] from past Congresses. It’s *NEVER* the Supreme Court’s fault, to actively ‘go after’ or ‘block’ contra-Constitutional legislation is “Judicial Activism”... or “There’s not a Precedent!”
[/disgust]

I wrote something after being on the receiving-end of a goose-chase (in regards to challenging a State Statute that violates the State Constitution w/o having to violate the Statute and argue against the Statute in court) over here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2513906/posts?page=1

>They rather condone deception than reveal the truth.

Ayn Rand said something that shares a tangent with that thought, it was to the effect of how governments only have power over criminals and to make sure they had power over everyone they would make everything illegal.
Those in power are disinclined to give it up.

Whatever you believe or want to investigate...

It is the Third Rail of Death for any politician.

Just today as I’m debating a Leftist friend on FBook...when he was beat, he drew the “you want to see the BCert. don’t you?”

I lied and said NO. I won the debate on merits, why bring that into it. So, don’t expect politicians to sacrifice themselves at the altar of Obama’s BC.

This is a Constitutional issue based on the presidential eligibility clause. Would you prefer to not see the Constitution upheld for fear of a crisis?

If you need to label people with one word basedon this issue then try “Constitutionalist”.

Most people are capable of addressing more then one political issue at a time. Personally I do not see how wanting to see the Constitution upheld is hurting chances of getting good conservatives elected.

>If any of it were true, wouldn’t Obama’s opponents have dug it up during the primaries?

I have nearly zero trust in either the Federal government OR the [major] parties OR the main-stream media.

Given the way McCain ran his campaign, he’d hardly have done worse if he were campaigning FOR Obama the whole time.

>The time for this birther crap has long passed.

The time for disregarding the Constitution crap has passed... or do you WANT to be tried multiple times for the same crime [5th], police/LE raiding your home with ‘carte blanche’/’fishing expeditions’ for evidence of crimes [4th], forced to answer for capital or ‘infamous’ crimes w/o an indictment [5th], be forced to testify against yourself [5th], have biased (possibly government/prosecution-employed juries) [6th], million-dollar bail for jaywalking/speeding [8th], civil trials w/o a jury [7th], retroactive laws [unamended], laws that target individuals or groups of individuals [unamended]?
ALL of those are prohibited by the US Constitution. [Locations in square brackets.]

I do not agree with Jonah Goldberg on these issues - at all. This whole article is wrong.

JG: "I for one don't yearn for a constitutional crisis"

Jonah and I have a difference of opinion ... I think the Constitution is worth upholding, even if it causes a "crisis".

Actually, a constitutional crisis at this point would be a welcome thing, because it would mean that there were still people in office who cared enough about the constitution to insist that it be followed. We actually already are in a constitutional crisis but everyone, including Jonah, in the press and in politics have agreed to pretend not to notice.

I’m a fan of Jonah Goldberg, but he’s wrong on this issue.

If you’re a journalist, you needn’t pretend to know the answers to the question. Your first job at the very least is to recognize that there is a question, and ask it.

Claiming that Bush was in on 911 is certainly evil and crazy, but asking it is not. It allows the truth to come out, and sure enough, you dig into facts about the melting point of steel and Saddam’s connections with Osama and the world gets very interesting.

Obama has sealed off most of his past behind a firewall. “Birthers” are the people who notice that none of his paper trail is available for review. “Journalists” are the people who not only aren’t interested in why that might be, but insist on mocking anyone who notices it.

What citizenship did he claim when he went to college? Stupid question.

What passport did he use when he flew to Pakistan? Stupid question.

Is a native born citizen the same thing as a natural born citizen? Stupid question.

Just once I’d like to see someone stand up in a press conference and ask the president any one of these questions. It will never happen. Stupid even to think it, I suppose.

That is a brilliant summation of the whole situation - it all boils to simple facts which should be readily available, but aren't....I don't want a Constitutional crisis either, but I'd sure as heck rather have that than to not have a Constitution at all!

“The MSM has to be hysterical about Birthers, because without apoplexy they would have to answer questions such as “Why doesn’t Obama simply release the long form?”

Funny, but there are many. many enormous Journalism awards and citations awaiting any MSM member who would do a little research and break the true story, (as opposed to the frauds being perpetrated) of O’s Birth Certificate and life experiences.

At some point I am sure one of them will succumb to the lure - it will be the Journalistic triumph of the millennium.

Just got this idea. It needs a lot of work but it's a start:

He can give you the finger
As he shifts his small eyes
He can ruin your land with his casual lies
And he only reveals what the prompter decrees
He hides his childhood,
But he's always a Kenyan to me

He can say "yes we can"
He can take you or tax you
And he can't tell truth
So he'll never relieve you
And He'll take what you give him, call it all free
Yeah, He steals like a thief
But He's always a Kenyan to me

CHORUS:
Oh--He takes care of hisself
He can wait if He wants
He's ahead of his time
Oh--and He never gives out
And He never gives in
He just changes his lines

And He'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then He'll carelessly tax you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But He'll take from the best
And the worst can't you see?
Blame it all on yourself
Cause He's always a Kenyan to me
--Mhmm--

Bridge

CHORUS:
Oh--He takes care of hisself
We can wait if He wants
He's ahead of his time
Oh--and He never gives out
And He never gives in
He just changes his lines

He appears to be kind
But he really is cruel
He can do as He pleases
Because we're his fools
And He can't be conviced
To reveal pedigree
And the most He will do
Is throw shadows at you
But He's always a Kenyan to me
--Mhmm--

I welcome improvements but you have to be a birther to qualify.
