“California no longer has low-hanging fruits,” said Schwarzenegger at an afternoon news conference in Sacramento. “I now have no choice but to
call for elimination of some very important programs.”

low-hanging fruits?
Don’t go there, Skippy.

Never happen. Courts have the papers ready to declare whatever the Govinator does, unconstitutional. Just waiting to fill in the date.

This should be a lesson to the libs, right in front of their face is the demonstration of cutting budgets and taking away benefits to the non productive.
Now if we can get them to apply that to "free" health care.
I know, I know, just a thought.

The old Firemen First ploy.
Dominican Hospital is closing down its mental health services here in Santa Cruz. If there’s any town that NEEDS mental health services, it’s this one!

Why doesn't the governor just fund the planting of money tree's?
That way jobs AND money would be produced.

The state is not responsible for the poor and has no right to take my money in taxes and give it to other private parties, rich or poor. Granted, the state can seriously chop costs elsewhere such as union labor and bureaucrat wages but welfare programs should and must be eliminated.
To: dynachrome
Yeah. Maybe that is why he cut not one penny to illegals.

Well, what I expect is that the legislature will refuse to pass it, and they will argue over the budget for months.
In the past, Schwartzenneger has always caved and let the Democrats and the unions run the show. He had his chance, and he blew it.

A California Democrat Speaks the Truth! (May 30, 2009)
Nearly all of the billions of dollars in cuts the administration has proposed would affect programs for poor Californians...
Government doesnt provide services to rich people, Mike Genest, the states finance director, said on a conference call with reporters on Friday. It doesnt even really provide services to the middle class. He added: You have to cut where the money is.

The most pernicious political force is the power of the public employee unions. Unions should have no say in setting salaries, should focus of working conditions and personal relations between workers and management, and ways of improving efficient operation of the mission.

His $83.4-billion plan would also freeze funding for local schools, further cut state workers' pay and take away 60% of state money for local mental health programs. Looks like a small step in the right direction to me.
