Why do "professionals" advise everyone to have a fire extinguisher and smoke detectors but no guns, when the chances of a violent attack are much higher than that of a house fire.

You’d think an “expert” would let people know, if they have moral convictions
against the use of lethal force...
get a Remington/Mossberg large-magazine 12 guage pump.
And load it up with (usually) non-lethal rounds.
At least you have a chance to get the home invader(s) down on the ground
with the wind knocked out of them.
If I were king, castle laws would provide enhanced immunity for a homeowner
that could show that the first round fired was a sub-lethal round (thus
a warning shot).
And anything else that ensues...no criminal or civil lawsuits for
the homeowner that resisted the (hopefully deceased) home invaders.
And an order of commendation for “taking out the trash”.

Of course we all know those silly people with their guns don't bother to lock their doors... What an idiot- I do everything I can possibly do to keep intruders out of my house- but if they do get in they are paid for as far as I am concerned.
As far as his advice to dial 911; where I live you call the police when you have situation under control to inform them- since the average law enforcement response time here is at least an hour.
