Austin’s police chief Art Acevedo also opposes that AZ law. He called in to the PM talk ahow the other day and said “checking immigrant status overloads the APD and it was ICE’s / INS’ job” to do that.

The police chiefs of Minneapolis and St. Paul say a proposed state immigration bill modeled after Arizona's law would cause mistrust and have a "chilling effect" in immigrant communities.I would say that there are two police chiefs that need replacing.
I am an immigrant, albeit American 89% of my life. I have a serious problem imagining how I can feel distrust and experience any kind of a chilling effect against my community and my city due to this law.
If strangers, foreigners, criminals, irrational tribalists are deemed to deserve more consideration than people like me, I have to wonder where Political correctness has lead us.
That these stupid law enforcers can't make the distinction between an "immigrant community" and an illegal alien community simply solidifies my resolve to work, as strongly as I am able, towards replacing clueless law enforcers like these.
