Under the rules of the British constitution, Brown remains Prime Minister and yes he does get first call to form a government. Only then would Cameron be called in the event Brown couldn't form one with the LibDems.

The working class in England has traditionally voted for socialist party. In this case Labour.

Well obviously logically you wouldnt. So what does that tell you about leftists?
To: goldstategop
The “working class” must mean unemployed, retired and government employees.

When I said way back when that the Raving Looney Party was my kind of party, it was because Looney is my last name. :O)

Traditionally they voted liberal. Those few of them who could vote that is. Up until the 1920's there was still a wealth qualification to vote, so obviously most working class people were excluded. The Unions fought against that iniquity (and lets face it, it was an inequity) and one way was to form their very own political party. The Labour party, which soon supplanted the liberals in working class affections.
Of course, all this is completely irrelevent today, but in the minds of many labour is still "for the working man".
Redcar kicked out Labour and picked LibDems, a 21.8% swing.
ouch

It doesn’t look like LibDems and Labour combined will get 326, or even if they add SNP they won’t get 326. If the Tories can get close to 326, they should be able to form a coalition with some of the smaller parties.

Interesting. This seems to be going district by district - a “uniform” swing is not materializing.

The Irish parties will be the easiest to make a deal with - they’re very provincial and just want pork for N Ireland. Otherwise, they don’t care about anything else.

Just give their supporters government pork. Its the easiest way to buy their vote.

Yes the sitting MP was HEAVILY involved in the expenses scandal, and a lot of independents are standing on anti sleaze tickets.
To: GeronL
The Lib Dems have a net loss of 5 seats over half way through. Definitely not what most people were expecting.
To: GeronL
I am now projecting a Conservative majority. With 375 seats in, Conservatives have steadily rose to 48% of the current tally. The bulk of the remaining seats out look to be in southern half, which with expected pickups, will lean Conservative.
