I am a Mormon and I have no idea what you are talking about, svcw. Quite the contrary - Mormons do not turn a blind eye to sin. I know someone who was excommunicated TWICE for sin. He’s back in full fellowship thanks to the Atoning Sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

SVCW, George Givens, an active Mormon writer, would in his 19th century snippets of Mormon accounts, write about all the Mormons who were constantly being "re-baptized." They'd engage in sin. Get re-baptized. Then more sin. Then re-baptized again.

Mormons abuse re-baptism, plain and simple. They treat it almost like a weekly bath. And ex-communication? At times in Mormon history it's been almost a joke. Lds officials, and Lds historians, for example, would try to make much of the Cedar Lds bishop who was ex-communicated for his murderous massacre role in the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre. (What they often don't tell you is how he was later accepted back into fellowship.

Those who have lived after the manner of the world shall go to a telestial kingdom whose glory is as the stars.

(Oh, shuurr...That's the message of the Bible...live worldly to the hilt...get all the gusto you can...don't secure forgiveness for that before you die...and the "Mormon gospel" says "ye shall be 'SAVED' to live in a 'kingdom whose glory is as the stars'...NOT!!! /end sarcasm)

Even the term “re-baptized” makes me want to vomit. Of all the things I know about LDS I did not know they engaged in this abomination of God's Word. It is disgusting, I feel like I should shower.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

Indeed. (We all come short of his glory; having all sinned)

Now compare that to Joseph Smith's filter of "glory": "ALL...glory is brought to pass through YOUR DILIGENCE, faithfulness, and prayers of faith." (D&C 103:36)

So, bottom-line, BM, is the Mormon "version" of its "gospel" is an almost inaudible nod that, yes, we all sin, and fall short of God's glory, but guess what? YOU somehow "make up" that distance in the fall by doing all you can do (2 Nephi 25:23) via your diligence, faithfulness and prayer life. A total MAN-based "formula."

"...In the Church, however, we believe that these stewardships are a sacred trust.” Quentin L. Cook, “Stewardship—a Sacred Trust,” Ensign, Nov 2009, 91–94

How can this be twisted? [BlueMoose]

Indeed. How can it? Over & over & over & over again. Here, just in the past 14 months:

You wanna know why I think stewardship has been especially twisted in the Mormon church in recent months?

I think God is tired of the spiritual fraud within the Mormon church. He has removed His gracious hedge of protection; and He has given the Mormons over to the natural realities (fraud) of what has been occurring in this camp (spiritual fraud) for 180 years!

President Spencer W. Kimball “Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more. By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will confess them and forsake them.” (D&C 58:42–43.)

(Sorry, BM, but you need to keep reading MORE from "Brother Kimball"...I can pull out other quotes for you, but if you're trying to highlight "forgiveness," I can think of NO WORSE Lds "prophet" who screwed up true biblical concepts of "forgiveness" more than Kimball)

Past "prophets" like Spencer W. Kimball & others then stress that you have to EARN forgiveness (a concept foreign to the Bible). Kimball even had a chapter in a book (the book was called "The Miracle of Forgiveness") entitled, "Keeping God's Commandments Brings Forgiveness."

"President [Spencer W.] Kimball said...spend the balance of your lives trying to live the commandments of the Lord so he can EVENTUALLY pardon you and cleanse you." (Lds church, Gospel Principles, p. 120-122, citing Lds "prophet" Spencer W. Kimball, The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 200)

What a distortion of the true gospel!!! The bible says the blood of Christ cleanses us from all sins (1 John 1:7) -- not living the commandments! (We live the commandments because we were first cleansed and pardoned...he's got the order reversed! It's because of Christ's blood and the Holy Spirit making us born from above that we are even able to obey those commandments -- inside and out)

Colofornian wrote: “Lds downplay sin”

I laughed outloud! I wonder why we bother to take the Sacrament every Sunday. Every Sunday. I’ll tell you why. It’s because we Mormons are the biggest sinners on the planet. We need the Atonement of Jesus Christ more than anyone. We need the Atonement of Jesus Christ every minute of every day. The infinite Atonement. It is a glorious Blessing of the Lord’s Grace.

You are so full of baloney it is not even funny. You know nothing about the LDS faith. Your Jesus is petty and small and accusing.

It’s a good think that you are not the Judge of me, or anyone for that matter.

I hate to deter you from your mission of attacking and slandering the LDS, but the article says this Savage guy uses the Church to befriend elderly women. It doesn't say, "The Church uses Savage to steal the money of its elderly members".

Or don't haters like you understand the difference?

“Mormons just think they are superior”

Ha! That is a hilarious. Aren’t you the one condemning Mormons to hell? One would have to be pretty darn puffed up in themselves (”superior”) to have the nerve to go around judging and condemning and pointing fingers; claiming to be all-knowing and holier-than-thou. The Jesus Christ I worship does not condemn me; He died for me and loves me and accepts me. Jesus died for Mormons, too.

Mormons are a peculiar people, though; I will grant you that.

If believing in the Atonement of Jesus Christ is “spiritual fraud” I am guilty as charged.

If believing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is “spiritual fraud” I am guilty as charged.

If believing that Heavenly Father sent His Only-Begotten Son to die for the sins of the world is “spiritual fraud” I am guilty as charged.

If believing that the Holy Ghost ever lives to help us draw closer to Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ is “spiritual fraud” I am guilty as charged.

If believing in the Bible is “spiritual fraud” I am guilty as charged.

If sending Missionaries all over the world to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ is “spiritual fraud” my Church is guilty as charged.

If believing that clergy should not be paid a salary is “spiritual fraud” I am guilty as charged.

Oh, wait . . . you are not the judge.

This "superior" shoe fits pretty well...why don't you point out the items that ARE NOT part of mormon ego? Especially, given your post to me, Item No. 12!

MORMON
ATTITUDES OF SUPERIORITY

  1. I’m Superior; I have a special gift of the holy Ghost -- you don’t!
  2. I’m Superior; I have God’s true priesthood power -- you don’t!
  3. I’m Superior; I can go in God’s secret Temple -- you can’t!
  4. I’m Superior; I’ve been Endowed with special Gifts and Knowledge -- you’re just normal!
  5. I’m Superior; I’ll have my family with me in heaven -- you’ll be with strangers!
  6. I’m Superior; I’m becoming a God -- you aren’t!
  7. I’m Superior; My women know their place as servants of man and yours don’t.
  8. I’m Superior; YOUR creeds are wrong because they come from man - mine comes from God (you can find each one printed in our Scriptures).
  9. I’m Superior; I don’t HAVE a creed - I’ve got 13 Articles of Faith.
10. I'm Superior; I have 4 "Bibles"-- the standard works (5 if you count the JST) -- you've only got one: in as far as it is translated correctly.
11. I’m Superior; I can lie with impunity about such things as church membership, church growth, church doctrine, church history, church influence, etc. —                           -- You can’t.
12. I’m Superior; I am right (everybody knows) when I say 'evangelical' Christians are lunatics --
-- You’re a hideous narrow-minded bigot, who is persecuting me by practicing discrimination by saying I'm not a Christian.
13. I'm Superior; I have a testimony about a prophet -- you don't.
14. I'm Superior; I have a Scripture-producing Amos 3:7 prophet -- you don't
15. I’m Superior; I have a Living Prophet who talks to god every day -- you have a dim-witted hireling of Satan who only talks to himself.
16. I'm Superior; I have my calling & election made sure -- you don't.
17. I’m Superior; I have magic underwear to protect me from the bogey man -- you don’t.
18. I’m Superior; I have secret clasps and grips to give the angel so I get admitted to the celestial kingdom -- you don’t ;so you can’t.
19. I'm Superior; I know secret handshake codes for afterlife entrances-- you don't.
20. I’m Superior; I will see Joseph Smith setting on the right hand of GOD, when I get to Mormon heaven, and he will recognize me and judge me favorably                              -- You’re on your own; when you get to wherever you’re going!
21. I’m Superior; I’m going to hie to Kolob -- you’re going to who knows where.
22. I’m Superior; I get to have a harem and act like a celestial stud for time and all eternity -- you don’t.
23. I’m Superior; I have sun stones, moon stones, sky stones, cloud stones, Saturn stones, and the evil eye of Osirus guarding my temple
-- all you have is a stupid cross.
24. I’m Superior; My church has billions in assets stashed away -- yours has taken a stupid vow of poverty.
25. I'm Superior; Last - we have the power to keep a whole race out of our priesthood if we wanted to reinsert our 148-year legacy  (we ARE still keeping an entire GENDER at bay!)

Revision 46.1
Semi-Official creed of the EXclusive club of Freeper Flying Inmans.
All rights liable to be abused.

It's amazing that some of you tend to forget I was once mormon and I KNOW the mind-set of "better than youness" first hand.

This is a serious question, what is the deal with LDS If believing that clergy should not be paid a salary

There is nothing wrong with clergy being paid, it is Biblical.

That's just another one of the ways the mormons like to think they are better than Christians. One of the richest corporations in the US trying to convince others that money isn't important to them.

Here's an interesting article, speaking of money.

BOB ABERNETHY, anchor: Now, a special report on the rebuilding of Salt Lake City. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons, are building an enormous new downtown development—high end shops, condos, and offices. Is that emphasis on wealth and consumerism compatible with Mormon values of modesty and thrift? Does it leave any room for the poor, or for the variety that helps make up vibrant city life? Lucky Severson reports from Salt Lake City.

Such hypocrisy here from LDS, their so called prophets make a tidy $. They can’t even give stuff to the the least of these without asking for them to work off the debt or pay it back. My goodness it is almost beyond comprehension the deception.

You are right; there is nothing wrong with clergy being paid a salary. I should not have said that.

On the other hand, Paul paid his own way as he journeyed all over the place spreading the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. But I know the worker is worthy of his wages.

It doesn't say, "The Church uses Savage to steal the money of its elderly members".

OK, I've made the evidence pretty easy to ponder. Look @ post #45. Why is financial fraud so rampant in Mormon church the past year and a half compared to any other religious body? Why? Who could you come up, sect-wise, to compare this level of fraud to?

Look at the first article linked in post #45 -- "Preying on the faithful" (May 2, Salt Lake Trib). Read through the article and note how many law enforcement types critique the Mormon church for not sounding the preventative alarm enough about what is going on in their wards and dances and other events!

I know churches, after a number of auto thefts, who have begun to employ police officers who simply sit and observe in the church parking lots during their Sunday Morning services. The officers get paid overtime; the churches take preventative action from these types of crimes -- vs. ignoring the problem.
