The proponents of Open Carry fail to understand that the purpose of any political movement is to get the public on your side.
Public opinion eventually decides all issues. On every issue you have about 40% who see it one one, 40% see it the other way, and about 20% are undecided. The trick is to get the 20% undecided on yours side, not offend or scare them.
Open Carry supporters may make themselves feel good openly carrying their weapons, but their actions simply scare the undecided and drive them into the other camp.
A classic example was the anti-abortion protester who put huge pictures of aborted fetuses on the side of his truck and drove all over Florida. It offended huge numbers of people and swung public opinion against the Pro-Life movement for a decade.
It's the same sort of idiocy here. Remember, all we need to do (or do for the Dems) is to scare enough people into voting Dem so they can avoid all those “crazies with guns.”
Enough Dems and we get a SCOTUS that accepts the “Militia Requirement”, and the 2d Amendment is gone forever.
Carrying openly might be legal. So is dressing up in only a diaper and rolling around in squashed grapefruit and chocolate sauce in a public park.
Just because something may be legal does not make it smart.
One should be able to practice one constitutional right to bear arms any damn way he chooses!
Bob Owens need to have his pajama’s license revoked.
Bull.
I prefer concealed carry as a concept. YMMV.
Open-carry advocates are my allies, not my enemies.
I quite disagree; observe that the Federal Constitution’s Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. Open or concealed is not mentioned, however the powers not delegated to the Federal government are to go to the states or remain with the people.
Now, the states CAN prohibit concealed carry or open carry, but NOT both because when they joined the Union they agreed to adopt the Constitution and the second amendment is written in the passive voice, which gives it far more power. {The subject being “the right to keep and bear arms” and the infringement thereof being denied in general.}
If states disallow [or regulate] concealed-carry, then they MUST [by the previous argument] allow free, open carry.
The police receive training on weapons retention yet many are killed every year with their own weapon, so open carry will just produce easier targets for the criminals and let the bad guys know who is armed and who is not, makes their work safer for the criminal.

It is obvious you don’t know your fact, because I have the 2009 officer memorial list in front of mepublished by the American Federation of police and concerned citizen, and not a single officer was killed with his own firearm in 2009.in the Memorial a listing of110 officers were killed in the line of duty, 42 by assailants firearms.
Since I know these reported facts it is obvious you’re pulling your opinion out of thin air. It is disingenuous on your part to spread such inaccurate information.
Soon we will all be forced to carry...
“Recoil in horror” - maybe wet themselves, too.
