Think about what you said. That simply doesn’t make any sense at all does it. Obviosly there IS a caveat or they would be taking in laundry.

I have a completely different view when it comes to unemployment insurance.

Unemployment benefits are essentially a mandatory insurance policy your employer and the employee are forced to pay on your behalf. You can’t opt out. So while you are employed this is in effect coming out of YOUR paycheck.

The correct way to handle unemployment is either.

- make the coverage optional so that the employer can pay more money up front to the employee.

- Pay out all benefits in one lump sum just like any other insurance settlement with a valid claim on a loss.

If paid in a lump sum most people would have incentive to find work immediately.

Half the store fronts in the strip malls are empty. On the plus side illegals are leaving.

Even the incentive to get a temporary job is sabotaged by the unemployment system. If it does not lead to a permanent job or another job does not follow, the worker’s benefits are often hurt compared to before.

I can remember inthe 1970s when teachers were happy to get laid off.Their husband was working. They got unemployment insurance. They saved on nannies, work expenses and travel costs. The government gave them an unexpected vacation. Now they can do it for at least 2 years.

And for the small business employer, like my husband, the unemployment insurance rates get higher, he works harder and harder and brings less money home. All so that folks can find “the perfect fit”.
