Better read all of what Saint Paul wrote.
"But I would have you to be without solicitude. He that is without a wife, is solicitous for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please God. But he that is with a wife, is solicitous for the things of the world, how he may please his wife: and he is divided. And the unmarried woman and the virgin thinketh on the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she that is married thinketh on the things of the world, how she may please her husband. And this I speak for your profit: not to cast a snare upon you; but for that which is decent, and which may give you power to attend upon the Lord, without impediment." 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
"Forbidding to marry. to abstain from meats. He speaks of the Gnostics, the Marcionites, the Encratites, the Manicheans, and other ancient heretics, who absolutely condemned marriage and the use of all kind of meat; because they pretended that all flesh was from an evil principle. Whereas the Church of God, so far from condemning marriage, holds it a holy sacrament and forbids it to none but such as by vow who have chosen the better part: and prohibits not the use of any meats whatsoever in proper times and seasons, though she does not judge all kind of diet proper for days of fasting and penance." St. Jeromes' commentary on 1 Timothy 4:3 (emphasis added for your much needed edification)
Additional passages from Scripture that torpedo your thinly veiled lame attempt to condemn celibacy.
"Who said to them: All men take not this word, but they to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs, who were born so from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, who were made so by men: and there are eunuchs, who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven. He that can take, let him take it." Matthew 19:11-12
"Then Peter answering, said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have? And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed Me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of His majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for My name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting. And many that are first, shall be last: and the last shall be first." Matthew 19:27-30
"Then Peter said: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed thee. Who said to them: Amen, I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive much more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting." Luke 18:28-30
The Church stat of 45,000 is even better because it’s not a static number. There have been more than 45,000 priests in the church since the 1960’s when the “guitar priests” infiltrated the church to avoid the Draft and stay in the closet. But the 55 number stands. The tenured profs at Yale? They probably have, as they say “vacancies by death, few. By retirement never”.
Additionally, people who quote Scripture to condemn celibacy need to be reminded that presumably Christ was celibate and did not marry. Regardless of His divine nature, He was still a man and subject to the same temptations and was able to overcome them.
Not really. This is what happens when authority is given to people without there being any safeguarding as to whom. These victims put trust into people and felt compelled to obey-—whether it was the boy scouts, a rabbi, or a priest.By it’s very nature the Catholic Church is built upon authority—this is why it was easier and more common for degenerates to sexually abuse these young men. These boys should have been kept away from anybody that would wield such power over them. Or warned by FATHERS to tell them if anybody tried to perpetrate these perversions on them to kick them where it hurts and then tell DAD. He’ll make sure the dirtbag will pay. Think how much less abuse there would have been.
This is a masterpiece.
Ann is awesome! She really nailed it.
Yes, superb logic and arguments. Truly a MASTERPIECE!
