They have done the math and determined that they will loose the house and still have a majority in the senate. With that structure they can still pass amnesty next year with reliable cross over republicans. They will not get everything they want but enough to ensure the Latino vote for the next generation.
They have one last chance to radically transform the US before loosing their majorities and that is cap and tax. All their efforts will be focused on its passage.
