Sad to see it go. They produce a high quality product and have sent many jerky packages to our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It’s a shame. I love jerky. I have to say though that it is a pricey snack food. Worth it if you have the money because of the protein and low fat (and deliciousness) but a luxury . . .
It’s something I try to not leave home without when going on a long hike or a long airplane ride.
Not to mention jerky is just too expensive even in good economic times.
Homemade jerky:
Dip thin sliced meat into a mixture of soy sauce and brown sugar. Place on racks. Sprinkle on black pepper. Dehydrate in a dehydrator or in a 120 degree oven several hours.
Check #4.
I spent $4.50 on a box of jerky seasoning at Wal-Mart and was able to make 5lbs of venison jerky. $6 for 3 oz or $4.50 for 64 oz? The decision isn't that hard.
Even making it from ground beef it's still cheaper $23+ per lb.
Hell its even cheaper buying a 16oz T-Bone at $5.00 per lb and turning it into jerky.
True capitalism is a moral system. Everyone is working to meet someone else's needs. Socialism is immoral, no one is entitled to his neighbors labor.
What about the cost of the stove running and the AC to cool the place? And is it as good homemade?
But..but..but.. I’ve been told (for the fifth time) that the “recession is over.” /sarc
These folks should advertise on some of the survival-themed websites.

I marinate it 24 hours....delich.
I included that quote in the excerpt as it succinctly defines the true nature of capitalism.
I’ve also noticed on my yearly trips to the store that Jesus Christ has been listed as the only ‘Employee of the Year’ on their wall each year.
I’m not a jerky lover-too high priced;but those little packs with a beef sausage and similar sized piece of cheese are good when you can’t leave the job or for a hiking snack.
Obama pledged to “fundamentally change” our country.
Above all others, Obama is keeping this pledge, even if it kills us.
What a damn shame.
That appears to be a non permanent link; it dumps me into their main page. What item were you referencing?
And is it as good homemade?
Better, IMHO, it doesn’t have that artificial smoke flavor.
Nice! I’ll do it!
My wife bought me a dehydrator for Christmas..... after using it a few times making jerky.... it "paid for itself.' I needed a dehydrator anyhow.
Using the stove..... you only set the oven at 110 (with the oven door cracked slightly) for about 1hr to 1 1/2 hrs. Of course, I made my first batch of the fall (didn't need the AC) in the oven, and the rest in the dehydrator (didn't notice any spikes in the power bill. I stuck several pounds in the freezer (had too, it's addicting to eat).
The Eastman Outdoors jerky is absolutely AWESOME. I wanted to use "store bought" seasoning packages before I started experimenting with scratch made recipes...... but for $4.50 a box and the flavor.... can't beat it. So I added several boxes to my pantry with the rest of my stores.
One of the things I like about Hombre is that it does not have the ‘artificial smoke flavor.’
