OTH, the highly motivated Black Shirts (Italian Fascists) which were roughly equivakent to the Waffen SS did perform quite well in combat. The black shirts were not the dregs of Italian society, though.

I have been vilified on these threads by those who cannot accept the possibility that our military is capable of staging a coup against a corrupt and entrenched government.
If the electoral process is corrupted it is more than conceivable that the Supreme Court could marshall our military in an action that would stop the tyranny in its tracks.
Rather than face the likelihood of a second civil war in which states secede the Court could find no alternative but to forcibly suspend the actions of the executive and, if necessary, the legislative branches.
Let's all hold our breath until some senator raises that concern at the upcoming SC nominee proceedings.
Who are you going to fire on? His edicts will be enforced by your local police and sheriff deputies just like in Germany in the ‘30s.
